Nest outdoor cam history scrolling broken

Jordan1007
Community Member

I have a wired nest cam outdoor and a nest cam floodlight, as well as a nest cam indoor. Until today, when I went to go review each camera’s full history from the app, I could scroll through the feed and it would update in real time - meaning as I scrolled through, I could see different people coming/going throughout the day, different events happening, etc which would let me go through and search for something that may have happened. At some point in the last day or two, the app stopped allowing that - now when I try to scroll through history, I either get a frozen screen for a few seconds until it updates, or an image like what’s shown in the link below. What happened here? This was an extremely useful part of these cameras - without it, if the camera misses an event, it’s virtually impossible to go back through the feed to find it unless you have the exact time stamp.

I’m assuming this must be an app bug, because when I try the same thing in the legacy nest app (my indoor cam is a legacy cam), the scrolling history feature works just fine. Anyone have any ideas? If this is permanent, i’m going to be making a permanent switch.

Hi everyone.

This issue has been escalated but I have a few questions and some troubleshooting-

Can you reply if you are on iOS or Android? Which OS version?

Are you viewing from Google Home app or via web?

If you leave public preview in the Google Home app, do you still have this issue?

Double check if you got the latest Google Home app for those of you on iOS. It's currently rolling out but you can download it from the app store. The build is 3.30.102 fyi

If you could reply with answers to these I can send them over to the Google team-

Thank you all!

Jill

Same problem here; can’t scroll from Nest Aware. Has been occurring for about two weeks.

This is the latest response. This will not work, but I’ll let them try. So many with the same exact issue that started at the same time. It’s just ridiculous they are forgetting they told me in the beginning that this was a new issue and engineering was working on it, yet the deal with me like I’m the only one. Very very frustrating. They had told me first to check my WiFi. I already told them I have cameras different places, different ISPs and this issue was affecting all my cameras on the app.  Their next and latest  response is they will replace one of my cameras to see if that fixes his issue. So, I am waiting on new camera.

Sad.

I am having the same issue. No live feed while scrubbing. Works perfect on the Nest App...another reason why I havent transferred my Nest to Google Home...

I had a new issue today. I checked the overnight video and saw several events that all indicated there were animals in my yard (the whole reason I have the camera). When I watched the events nothing was there. This afternoon I was able to scroll a few hours back, but beyond those 3 or so hours the picture was frozen or pixelated. When I went back to where I was able to scroll, it no longer worked. I hope this makes sense.

iPad Pro after updateiPad Pro after update

I just tried update on my iPad Pro 5th gen and same before and after update glitches

I just tried Google Home Preview in my safari browser on iPad. It seems to be working without glitches … It is slow to load compared to Nest app but not sure if this is normal.
Here is screenshot

Same way mine behaves. This is 100% a software issue on Google's end...prob a server issue.

Hi, I am using iOS 18.3.1, I am not using public preview, I am using the google home app version 3.30.102, and am still having the same issues with trying to scroll within the app.  The new app update did not resolve the scrolling issue for me.

Hi Jill, how is this a recommended answer? Maybe I misunderstand the significance of a recommended answer? I see this is a helpful question. 🙂.

I see it is collecting information to help. Try to resolve problem.

It's not the "answer" but it is the only tool this format has to keep it from being buried.

Don't worry though, the team is looking at the replies and info...

Thanks @JillG

I genuinely want to know what is taking so long for the Nest migration. The fact that the Nest app is still superior to the Google Home app after almost a decade is ridiculous.

The last thing I want Google to do is force us to migrate …  from Nest app / browser to Google Home app.  I use both the Nest app and the Nestcam access on Nest browser daily.

The Nest app is superior but it will not be around forever and personally I am tired of switching between the two. Its not that hard to implement all the features the Nest app has and improve from there. They are literally moving like slugs feet dragging through the mud. Its insane.

Like you I am tired of switching back & forth. I will be happy if the Nest App functionality is ported to the Google Home App. Until then I will have to continue to use both apps as one of my Nest Cams is newer and will not run on Nest App.
I have requested numerous times thru App feedback, phone calls & emails that Google update the Google Home App with Nest App functionality of Nest cams for over 3 years.

yea talking to Google is like talking to a stump. in all honestly I would love to see some of these monopolies fail. All they really do is go around and buy up all these companies and secure their patents and put a chokehold on progress and then instead of improving on what they bought they let it drag in the dirt.

iOS latest version.

I left the public preview and it still persists, even after restarting the app

I just updated to the newest version and it still does it

also, why is it taking so long to add in the rest of the features the Nest app has and migrate everybody over. It feels like it’s been 10 years…

Just to add, CS has offered to replace one camera to see if issue is fixed, but I am waiting to see if the bug is fixed as I do not want to lose the 60 days of footage I have and trying to download everything is time consuming.

well we know its the software not the hardware. This is a Google Home App issue no matter how else they try to direct it as otherwise. If they want to send me another camera for free so be it but its not worth the hassle to initiate

All my devices are IOS version 18.3.1 This does appear to be an issue with the Google Home App. I have uninstalled and installed the app on all my devices several times. I just updated the app with this new version that just rolled out and the problem still exists for all 4 cameras. The web version works at a very slow pace where I can not actually scrub through footage and it takes seconds for the events to play.

I have the same issue and started about 2 weeks ago. I have done resets, uninstalls and reinstalls, deleted the app and reinstalled and that did nothing. My cameras are wired. I am on iPhone iOS version 18.3.01 and same issues on my iPad. It’s the Google home app not the cameras. I have updated the app to the newest version that was just released a few hours ago and still have the problem of not able to scroll on playback. It is just pixelated gargle. Need a fix as I am paying a service for something that became almost useless.

Just a quick FYI; Our Community Manager let me know that the concerned team is collecting data from your posts and they are currently investigating the history scrolling issue.

Hoping they can get a quick resolve out.

Do you have any update or resolution yet on this scolling/timeline issue that is going on 3 weeks? I am still having this problem. Not sure if anyone had this resolved yet.

Nope everyone still having it and they prob wont credit our bills either. So quick to take money but not so much to fix issues.

IOS for me (the latest version). Viewing from Google Home app. Yes the issue persists if I leave the public preview in the Google Home app. My app is fully updated and still has the same issues.

Hi Jill. This is happening to me as well.  Exact same issue and around the same time.  I am an iOS user and just updated to version 3.30.102.  The issue still persists on all three of our wired nest outdoor cameras.

I’m using ios 17.7.1 and home 3.30.102

the home app worked fine until I upgraded the app in February.

once the history stops working, i can switch to  any other app and switch back to google home and the history works again until an event or history more than 4 hours.  Home app doesn’t appear to keep the connection to the history data.  I believe the problem is in the app and they should just go back to a previous version that worked.

It’s 100% the app and it’s been like this for weeks …ffs why has it not been fixed yet

Sgilfillan

Such poor customer service. All 4 cameras timeline has not worked in 3 weeks.  I want a credit to my bill when this is fixed. I sent screenshots to this person I chatted with but they still wanted me to factory reset 4 cameras AGAIN. I have used instructions posted. This chat person says there are no escalations on this issue and THERE IS!! I JUST WANT A CREDIT TO MY BILL WHEN THIS IS RESOLVED. ITS AN APP ISSUE NOT A CAMERA ISSUE. Extremely annoying. I pay my bill each year. Never late. Loyal customer.

@JillG may be helpful if the Google support people are aware of this issue and that you have escalated it.

yea those techs are just people from overseas that have zero idea what they are doing and only know how to follow a script. Much like most of the "experts" on here. Its kinda pathetic.

I'm using an iPhone 16 pro 18.3.1. My scrolling isn't working at all today through the Google Home app. Yesterday I was able to scroll for a few hours. I don't use public preview.

I am also on iPhone with version 18.3.1   I was able to scroll yesterday on the timeline of the google home app BUT only worked from 4-7PM EST.  I also have two google floodlight cameras but only one  of the two was temporarily able to scroll the mentioned time. This issue is going on for two weeks now. Was working fine for over a year on one camera and 7 months on another.

I have the exact same issues but now the app will randomly 'crash' as well. I have 3 cameras hooked up for a few years with no issue.
