Nest vs Home App

We recently added to our Google Home with the Nest Cam with Floodlight, Nest Cam Outdoor (battery) and Doorbell. I was excited to get all of these products to function with our current cameras, but discovered only some of the cameras display in the Nest app and on the web using the Nest website. In Google Home, I see everything. I'd like to use the web to view footage and setup zones etc. How can the Google Home items be views on the web? Why does the Nest app only show some of the hardware? Is there a plan to merge these platforms and create one seamless environment?

My understanding is that Google is getting rid of the Nest app. They are supposed to move all functions to the Home app. This is supposed to happen sometime in 2022.

I understand Nest is being retired, but I really hope they transfer all functions soon. It is unfair for the early adopters to be punished and experience reduced functionality. Any idea how to login to Google Home from Chrome? In terms of functionality, it is extremely helpful to use Chrome from a laptop to pull footage in cases where you need to export a portion or search for a time/date stamp.

In this Sept. 29, 2021 post in the Blog section of this forum (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Message-from-our-GM-Updates-for-our-Nest-customers/ba-p/...), the GM/VP of Google Nest says: "we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app. This will take time to get right, and we will continue to share more details as we have updates."

Other aspects of the current situation can be found in this Sept. 3, 2021 Google Blog: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/New-Cameras-and-Google-Home-app/ba-p/4632. You can see reactions from other customers in both of these blogs.

In the meantime, the new Google Nest cameras and doorbells released starting in the fall of 2021 can only be viewed and administered in the Google Home app and some camera functions (like scheduling, manual clips, Enhance, timeline access to events) that are present in the Google Nest app are not available for these new cameras and doorbells. The video feeds for previous Google Nest cameras and doorbells can be viewed in the Google Home app, but can only be administered and configured in the Google Nest app and on the home.nest.com website.

So, in my own case, we have one foot in the Google Home app world with our one new Google Nest Battery Camera and another foot in the Google Nest app / home.nest.com world with all of our other cameras and doorbells, with the Google Nest Hub Max in both. And we have no idea how long this will last.

Hey folks,

Thank you for your feedback on this issue, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest Cams in the Nest App or available on https://bit.ly/3HtBgJC web app. I can imagine having to use two different apps at the moment is quite daunting, and could lead to frustration.

However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support. I am more than happy to assist you further with this inquiry if you wish. Please let me know.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Upset customer here.

I have NUMEROUS NEST products and added the floodlight camera for our barn and found out after installation you have to use Google Home........ which is awful!!! I bought this to use with NEST!

Ridiculous that I have to have a separate app for 1 product and I can't even just view what's happening when opening the app without additional clicks to open the camera.

May sound trivial to some but being able to see ALL my cameras/detectors/doorbells etc on one page was the entire draw for me.

Super disappointed in this, why change something that worked???

I am trying to see if the latest product I purchased can be returned after installation as I am NOT a happy camper AT ALL = (
