No Audio on non-event recordings

I have had a Nest Cam (wired) Since before Google bought Nest and I absolutely love it and I love the functionality the Nest app provides. This past weekend I purchased a Nest Cam with Floodlight and after installing it I quickly learned I can't use the Nest app and I am forced to use the Google Home app. I have no problem with this and would love everything to be controlled through one app, no matter what tat app is. At first I was having issues with the history playing back correctly but that has seemed to work itself out. I think my Google account needed some time to properly setup the Nest Aware Plus functionality. I'm not entirely happy with the Google Home app since I can't save a clip unless it is an actual event in the history. This is ridiculous because I have had the need to save a clip of something that happened outside of a zone that would have triggered an event. I figured I could use the screen record option on my iphone to record something that isnt an event as it plays back on my phone. The big issue is that I am not getting any recorded audio in the history unless it is part of an event in the history. I have looked for a setting but haven't found it yet. I want there to be audio recorded in my history even if the the history is not part of an actual event. Is this possible? I am close to returning the Nest Cam with Floodlight because I am sick of having to figure out workarounds for a $280 security camera that I pay $12 a month to use the limited functionality it offers but the 6 year old camera that uses the Nest app works beautifully. Why does Google screw everything up?

@DougJorgie

We have a Google Nest Camera (Battery) and share ALL of your concerns except that we DO get recorded audio in the history even if it is outside an event. Since our camera is similar to the floodlight camera, it would seem that either you have a defective camera or Google Nest decided--deliberately or accidentally--to omit recorded audio outside of events on the floodlight camera.

Funny thing is, now I have sound during non-event history playback. It seems as though it takes a while for all Nest Aware Plus functions to take effect on an account.

So here's an update...

It seems sometimes I will have sound on non-event history and sometimes I dont. It might be an issue with the Home app actually loading all info needed for sound playback. I also encountered event history not having sound also a few times. Then if I close the app and go back in to view the same history it will play the audio, but not always. This is absolutely painful. Google should allow all Nest cameras to be viewed in the Nest app until they get the Home app working correctly with all the same functionality of the Nest app. it's amazing how they can screw this up this bad and not do anything about it.

Hi there,

I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I understand how frustrating your situation must be, and I would love to help however I can. I would agree, it sounds like this may be related to the Google Home app not working properly as it should. Please provide your feedback on the app about this issue. In the meantime, I would suggest going through all standard troubleshooting steps which would be to check your settings, restart the device, factory reset it if you have too, but do those next and please update the thread if there is a change.

Best Regards,
Brad
