No longer receiving notifications from cameras

rickytenzer

Since a day or so, I am no longer receiving any notifications from the Google Home app for any of my Nest Cameras. My wife has this same issue. We have checked our Google Home settings and both phones have notifications enabled. I'm not even getting doorbell notifications!

Has this happened for anyone else recently?

Hi Ricky,

Yes I'm the same. No notifications from home for any cameras.

Has been like this for a couple weeks. I've updated to android os 14 and wonder if that has something to do with the notifications not coming through.

I fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling

Tried that.

You iOS or android?

Android, worked on my wife's phone too

I have this same issue!

Android phone, updated to 14, UI 6.1 absolutely no Google Home notifications coming through for me.  Husband has exact same phone and gets all Google Home notifications (doorbell and cameras)

I have un/reinstalled the Home app.

Removed doorbell, added doorbell.

Removed cameras, added cameras.

I get NO notifications from any device. Husband gets ALL notifications.

Mines only been down since I did the security patch update, but husband also did update and still gets all notifications.

Any help from anyone would be GREATLY appreciated. Need notifications back asap!

Have you checked the event settings on each camera to confirm your device is set to receive notifications?

Yes I have.

Everything is on, except the only while away button. Exact same as my husband.

I've tried everything under the sun to receive notifications. Nothing is working. Have seen reddit a lot of people having the same issue and being told by Google they are working on it and hope to have fixed in next update.

What kind of phone are you using? I'm on an oppo

Pixel 7 Pro, wife has a Pixel 7

Same problem. No notifications from any cameras to Iphones or iPads. Called Google. Told me to be patient. They were awaiting an update which should fix the problem. It has been over 2 weeks now with no notifications.

Translation...they don't know. I've given up and hopefully the next update fixes it. Otherwise new cameras it is

I would normally have the same attitude, however, I had just purchased new additional cameras a couple days before everything went silent. I had been generally happy with the Nest cameras I already owned prior to this issue. I’m hoping for the best…and quickly!

The cameras work well but no help if they don't tell me what's going on.

I am having the same issue on s22 ultra. Support has been no help. I have un-installed and reinstalled.... nothing

I've read everything I can and tried it all. Somewhere between the cameras and permissions something isn't right.

Looks like if you're in the public preview, all users need to be in the public preview, otherwise the notifications dont work.

Natemate79

I don't know what that means.

I was never in Public Preview (Turn off and on in Settings) previously when all the notifications were working just fine. I made no changes and all of a sudden at one time all notifications ceased to function. It appears to be a Google Home issue, as the CSR told me. I just can't believe the update is taking this long for them to complete (if that is indeed the problem). Since consumers purchase these cameras for safety and security most often, and the very thing that lets us know of possibly suspicious events or people (notifications) is not functioning, they should be doing backflips to fix this issue!

Well it happened again, last year same time bought pixel 8 pro and installed new phone OS through setup and copied my data to new Pixel 8 Pro. Nest stopped sending notifications on Pixel 8 pro. Still get them on my old pixel 7a. There was no help whatsoever from Nest or Google. The ONLY fix and let me tell you this again ; NO OTHER FIX other than a factory reset without restore from backup made notifications come back to my pixel 8 Pro.

This year same story with my new Pixel 9 Pro. Still get the notifications on my Pixel 8 Pro but not Pixel 9 Pro anymore.

Clearly the issue is related to the restoring of data from older phone.

I don't want to do a factory reset again. Maybe this will ring a bell (pun intended) to Nest and Google there is something wrong with Nest notifications when restoring from a backup. Crossing fingers 🤞🏼 not to have to factory reset.

I factory reset one camera. That worked with notifications coming through.

I then added a zone to that camera and the notifications stopped. Deleted that new zone and bing, notifications started again .

Have since deleted all zones on all cameras and now getting notifications for all.

It's annoying but happy to have notifications back again

Just deleting zones? Or you must factory reset the cameras?

I have done both, and still does not work

SUDDENLY, on Sunday afternoon, all notifications began working again. After multiple frustrating conversations and emails with Google Nest Customer Service, I had given up on any additional changes I could make...I had tried them all. One of the earliest Google Nest advisors I spoke with had told me they were awaiting an update on their app, which seemed to be creating a problem. Every advisor I spoke with following that would not confirm the app update on their part. It seemed as if they had been instructed to keep quiet. They only sent me links to repeated "tips" already posted on their website, which I told them repeatedly I had already tried. Anyway, suddenly on Sunday afternoon all my notifications began working again for 3 cameras and 1 doorbell, on multiple iPads and iPhones. Although I am pleased with the Google Nest devices when they are working properly, this latest journey with Google Nest Customer Service, and nearly 3 weeks with no notifications, has left me wondering about going in a different direction in the future.

Are you saying the Google Home app is updated? If so what is the version number?

This is starting to get noticed, albeit for the Pixel 9 series:

I am having the same issue. My wife gets notifications on her Apple watch and iPhone 14. I don't on my Pixel 7. Stopped a month or so ago.

I've tried every suggestion. So frustrating.

Hi there,

Thanks for the comments, @rickytenzer. Thanks for sharing that uninstalling and reinstalling the app resolved the issue for you.

For those who are still experiencing the issue, even after uninstalling and reinstalling the app I am here to help! I need some more information to understand the situation better:

  • Is the device detecting events?
  • Did you receive any push or email notifications?
  • Have you checked your spam folder?
  • Has anything changed in your environment?
  • Is Airplane or Do Not Disturb mode turned off or on?
  • Did you try to use a different mobile device?
  • Is this issue constant or intermittent?

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Manuel

Manuel,

That is only a temporary solution as the issue returns after some time. Reinstalling again fixes it temporarily again.

- The cameras detect the events in the history, we just don't get notifications.

- No push nor email notifications when the issue is present.

- No email notifications are sent by Google Home.

- Nothing changed in the environment.

- No airplane mode or DND enabled.

- Yes, my wife has the same issue (Pixel 7).

- Consistent until the app is reinstalled.

Thanks,

Ricky

Hi Rickytenzer,

Thanks for your reply. I recommend trying the following steps to resolve the inconvenience:

  1. For Android users:
    • Go to the device's Settings.
    • Select Apps and notifications.
    • Select all apps.
    • Locate the Home app or Nest app.
    • Select Notifications.
    • Ensure that the toggle is on.
  2. For iOS users:
    • Go to the device's Settings.
    • Look for the Home app or Nest app.
    • Select Notifications.
  3. Try another mobile device: sign in, download the app, and sign in again to check if you receive notifications.
  4. If you have activity zones:
    • Make sure the camera is pointed to an area that isn't too bright or dark.
    • Ensure that the activity zones don't overlap. If they do, delete them and re-create them without overlap.

You mentioned that your wife has the same inconvenience on her Pixel 7. Do you also have a Pixel 7?

Please let me know if these steps help. I'll be awaiting your response.

Regards,

Manuel

1. Everything is toggle to on.

3. My wife's iPhone and Apple watch have not had any issues and still receive notifications.

4. Since my wife's devices are working fine, there is no issue with activity zones.

I have a Pixel 7, she has Apple devices

I have a wireless google nest doorbell and two wireless camera at one house, and a wireless google nest doorbell and two cameras at another house.

I stopped getting notifications about a month ago. I can still go look up the history, but I don't get notifications.

I use a Pixel 7 and the Google home app.

My wife has an iPhone 14, an Apple watch, and the Google home app and she has not had any problems.

I have checked my notification settings and they are all on. My system shows it is updated. I am a beta tester.

Please help.

Check your phones notification settings for the Home app. I'm not sure where they would be on a Pixel but on Samsung it's at  Settings - Notifications - App Notifications - Home - Notification categories. There is a slider for Camera notifications and it should be on.

@Iamthayes   Hello,  I'm going to escalate this so that it gets the attention of the folks at Google.  I know there are other posts here recently by other people reporting the same thing.  It might be a big limited to Android as I haven't see this reported on iPhone.   You may be a request for more info from Google on this

Thank you.

Manuel,

Apologies if this comes out as rude, but let's not play this game; NOTHING has changed on the user's end since this problem began and this is 100% on Google's side.

All users complaining of this issue have notifications turned on and this has nothing to do with activity zones. To be totally frank with you, it's quite upsetting as a customer to get this kind of entry level nonsense customer support when it's clearly a Google-side issue; I think all of us would rather hear "we are aware of this issue and are actively working on a solution" from you than these time-wasting troubleshooting steps.

Thanks,

Ricky

Agreed. Having just purchased a new Doorbell, it's extremely frustrating to see this is apparently a somewhat widespread issue and I've seen nothing from Google even recognizing it's an issue. While most of the articles written about it reference the new P9 phones, I'm having the issue on both my P7Pro and PTablet. Seems that there's very little interest in solving this problem.

Yes, it detects events and I can go to the history to see them. Plus, my wife's apple devices still get notifications.

I never had it set for email notifications, just push. Never had a problem until about a month ago.

Nothing has changed. Same ISP, same router, same phone, same cameras.

Airplane and do not disturb are both off.

My wife's mobile devices (iPhone 14 and Apple watch) both receive notifications.

Issue is constant for the last month -plus.
