Not Person, wired doorbell!

FJO

My Nest Doorbell (wired, with Nest Aware) is constantly identifying a lavender plant moving in the wind as a person. I'm starting to ignore all person notifications... very frustrating, and defeats the purpose of having a camera. Reminds me of the "Cry Wolf" story...

Is there a way to teach the Nest doorbell (wired) that something is not a person, so it learns and sends less incorrect notifications?
I'm sure I've seen a "not a person" button somewhere in one of the 2 apps, but can't find it any more

Thanks in advance

Last night I got a “new people seen” notification on the Nest app, asking “Do you know this person?”, so I can save it as a familiar face. This had a night mode snapshot of one of the lavender flowers it keeps identifying as people (it does the same with spiders walking on the lens), snapshot that once again did not even resemble a face.

Selecting the 3 dots on this message gave me the option that I mentioned on my original post, to feedback that “this is not a person”,

I now know where this option is now, and hopefully the camera learns from that feedback…. hopefully this helps others in the community!

Time will tell if the camera learns from this…

One of my nest cams is convinced a particular plant is a person whenever it is raining at night. I solved it by useing detection zones - literally outlined the problem plant and made it a different zone. (Under settings, events, seen events.)

No, there is no way for the camera to "learn" the false alerts.  My Nest Hello Doorbell does the same thing.

I solved it by buying a used Nest Outdoor (gen 1) camera from ebay and mounting it up in the rafters looking down toward the doorbell.  This camera can't see they moving bushes so I get almost no false alerts.  And since the Nest Aware covers additional cameras at no extra cost you only have the 1-time cost of the 2nd camera.

Hi Archie, Is there a way to teach the Nest doorbell (wired) that something is not a person, so it learns and sends less incorrect notifications? It keeps on identifying a plant moving with wind as a person…

Hey FJO,

While Nest strives to send customers notifications only when the camera senses important activity, false positives may occur as a natural outcome of using algorithms to process video. These algorithms learn and improve over time, limiting the number of notifications you’ll receive. You can try to set up an Activity zone in the Google Home app. Check out this link for additional help.

Thanks,

Archie

Hi @archie

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I already have activity zones and have set up to only receive notifications of people and parcels from only some of them. The problem is that I keep getting people notifications from lavender flowers in a zone I can’t exclude. The same happens with spiders walking on the camera! Neither of these even vaguely  resemble a face, How can the algorithm learn if there seems to be no way to tell it that there is no person on a clip?
