Been having the same issue for years now too.  Going to be ditching the Nest Hello.  It's far too aggravating having all these inconsistencies.
The Nest Hello doesn't seem to respond any differently if you're using $100 hardware, or $2000 hardware for wireless networking.  Nor does it care at what distance the access point it is connected to is from it.
I've run fiber all the way through to my access point, and when I get a notification (while at home) that someone rang the doorbell, Nest Hello will not even load correctly on ANY device I use in the house (smartphone, tablet, PC, laptop).
The Nest Hello is the only device that is streaming data, and it has full access to over 900Mbps of upload bandwidth....and yet here we are.

Hi MusikiPro,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear that. I want to make sure we're on the same page. A few questions: are you experiencing delayed camera notifications? Do you have an Android or iPhone? Also, what type of camera is in question?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

JT

@Harleyhalo

We've had Google Nest cameras and doorbells for a couple of years now. The lag time for notifications for "People" and "Motion" events has always varied. Sometimes it's 5 to 20 seconds. Other times, it might be several minutes. Occasionally it's even more. Or it can be anything in between.

A couple of things that I can think of:

1 ) Make sure you have adequate connection strength. Just because it is "connected" doesn't mean it is adequate. I was having the same issues, and I finally replaced my wireless router, and it made all the difference in the world. Your router has to have enough hardware to handle more devices and priority since technology is expanding in leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, people tend to buy and add many newer devices and the router is the last to be replaced and never considered. I bought a ASUS RT-AX86U, and it has a 4 core cpu and plenty of RAM, and is designed for large homes. (not trying to sell anything), but it was the best thing I did. It solved all my problems.

2) Make sure your internet plan has enough upload bandwidth. I have 6 Nest Cam (floodlight),a nd a Nest Hello doorbell, Nest Thermostat, 35 lights, plugs, etc. etc. and you have to realize that suddenly,  all your devices, including cameras have to "serve" from your home. Your home/router needs to have the ability to serve/stream to the internet. I'm sure your download mps is fine, but what about the bandwidth for your upload speed? Once I added the 7th camera, I was maxing out my upload bandwidth and it did get a little sluggish viewing all 7 cameras at once, outside the home.

These are just a few things to consider. The router made the biggest difference and solved other device connections, not just the video. I like that it has only one SSID and maintains the dual band on the backend. (2.4 and 5GHz), it is also WiFi 6.

Good luck.

I love it when people blame the "adequacy" of your home network... Maybe back in 2000 that could be the issue.  This is straight up a Google issue with the hardware/app communicating and needs to be addressed. I have very reliable network with great speeds and this is the only thing in my smart home that has problems. Had a ring doorbell that worked flawlessly on the same network for years. Switched to Google because I wanted to get the meat thermostat but don't think I'll be using Google if they can't figure this out.

100% agree, most people these days have more than adequate internet speeds and those who don’t, probably don’t have cameras anyway.  Like others mentioned, I have a doorbell cam, 9 Nest cams, over 35 smart lights, smart plugs and  about 8 devices (phones, laptops, iPads) and the notifications were fine until I was forced to transition everything from the Nest App to the Google app.  I initially thought it might be my router, so I used my work from home allowance to buy the Orbi AX6000 mesh system because it can handle over 100 devices.  It’s the most expensive router I’ve ever purchased and it didn’t change much.  Maybe allowed devices to connect faster but nothing changed with the notifications.  My neighborhood has been upgraded to Fiber/GB speeds, but nothing can compete with the inadequacies that come with Google taking ownership of your home security cameras.
If anyone has a solution, please let me know.  At this point, I’m ready to sell my overpriced best cameras in favor of Ring or even wireless Arlo.
**side note, I have 1 Netvue camera that’s always connected and I get alerts within 3 seconds of entering the room.  So I would say that’s solid evidence we’re dealing with a Google issue.

This is a Google issue and they are just refusing to look into the matter but keep on selling this. I’m moving all to homekit, which seemed to be more responsive. Getting the Netatmo Doorbell soon. Running a Fibe internet with speed « up to » 1.5 Gb/s. Will keep you posted.

Yes, I am experiencing a huge delay between when the button is depressed on the doorbell and the moment I get the alert (the chime or the phone notification: 15 seconds minimum to be exact).

That is from the very beginning of me buying this device in October 2019).

Google Support even replaced the entire doorbell to no avail.

My service here is Fibe internet from Bell, running at a speed up to 1.5 Gbps with their brand new Sagem 4000 modem/router.

Also:
- I tried reducing the bandwidth consumption on the DoorBell settings to no avail.

Definitely, either the Nest Doorbell has very bad processor, or the way things are processed within are using a very complicated path to reach the chime (a Google Mini speaker) and notify me by phone.

I hope this helps
