Recently purchased nest cam for outdoors that is plugged in to power point and have nest aware plus subscription. I can download events but I can't clip recordings when there is someone talking and no motion. We need to provide those recordings to the police but can't get them off the cloud to send. How can I create clips from my best camera? If we can't, the camera is useless for part of the purpose we need it for. Not a very good product if you promote that the cloud stores 10 days of continuous recording but you can't do anything with those non event activities captured. We haven't been successful in connecting the nest camera to the PC as it must be a recent version that doesn't have that connection available? Very frustrated customer at present.

Unfortunately, when Google Nest decided that the new Google Nest cameras and doorbells released starting in the fall of 2021 would work ONLY in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app or on the home.nest.com website, one of the functions that was lost was the ability to create video clips manually (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9207572?hl=en).
In a Sept. 29, 2021 post, Google Nest's Vice President said: "we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app" (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Message-from-our-GM-Updates-for-our-Nest-customers/ba-p/...) but there have been no updates since then. We purchased a Google Nest Camera (Battery) in early Sept. 2021, and are still waiting for the ability to manually create clips to be added to the Google Home app.

Thanks for your reply but sad to hear nothing has changed for nearly a year. It just doesn't make sense oh having 24/7 recoding but you can't do anything with the recording. Here's to hope that something changes this year and clips can be created. Probably at an extra cost though.

Hey folks!
MplsCustomer, thanks for your help.
daddowam, let's get this sorted. A few questions: do you have a 1st Gen Nest Cam Outdoor or the Nest Cam Indoor/Outdoor Battery? The Nest Cam Outdoor lets you create a 2 minutes and 30 seconds of clip in the Nest app and 60 minutes of clip on the web browser. Also, if you have the Nest Cam Indoor/Outdoor Battery you can download your video clips in the Google Home app. The maximum capacity of clips you can store is limited to 3 hours and you need to delete some clips to give room for another clip. For your reference, you can check the steps in this article: Save and download video clips.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
JT

Hi JT,
I have a nest cam indoor/outdoor battery which I keep plugged in to the power with the supplied cable. I also have the nest aware plus subscription so the camera records 24/7 and saves 10 days of continuous recording. I can download an event which the camera picks up. However, I need to be able to make clips from the 24/7 recordings on the cloud that isn't an event. The noise that is recorded (person being abusive) will be useful to pass on to the police. From what I have read, the new camera's can't connect to the nest app or web based platform, I've spent hours trying and researching how. Unfortunately the product does not do what we need and therefore we have wasted over $400. Not a good feeling and makes me not want to increase my google products around the house.
Cheers daddowam

Hi daddowam,
I know how frustrating it can be. However, you can only create video clips from detected events in the video history. You can’t create video clips from footage with no activity. The maximum clip length setting for your camera or doorbell will affect how long video clips can be.
Follow the steps below to create and download a video clip:
Near the top of the screen, tap Download to save the video clip to your phone. From there, you can share the video clip via email or social media app.
Thanks,
JT

The fact that the newer Google Nest cameras--which work ONLY in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app or on the home.nest.com website--can only provide video clips of "detected events" is one of several design flaws in the new cameras.
10 months ago today, Google Nest Vice President Rishi Chandra promised to address this and other design flaws when he said: "we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app" and "we’ve also been working on rolling out a desktop experience for the Google Home app, so the new Nest cameras and doorbell feeds can be viewed and controlled from there" and "we commit to being more transparent with you on where we are taking the camera portfolio" (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Message-from-our-GM-Updates-for-our-Nest-customers/ba-p/...).
In the intervening 10 months, there has been not one word issued by Google Nest on this commitment to "being more transparent with you on where we are taking the camera portfolio".

Hi JT,
Thanks for checking in. Unfortunately the steps shared haven't helped as the functionality in either the camera or software is not there to do what we need, make clips from the 24/7 recordings that are not events. If you could update us all on when this functionality would be available, that would help.
Cheers daddowam

Hi daddowam,
Thanks for trying, if your camera has 24/7 video history you should be able to download the video clips. Let's have a better look — could you send me a screenshot of your camera thumbnail when you can't create a video clip from your 24/7 video history on the Google Home app?
Cheers,
JT

Hi JT,
I'm a bit confused, in an earlier reply from you, you said the camera and software can only download events. I have successfully downloaded events but I need to download recordings that are not events. The software does not allow this functionality even though the camera records 24/7 and my nest aware plus subscription stores 10 days of recording. The data is there but I can only watch the recording. Pointless really as I need to pass that information on to the authorities. For example, in my recorded history there are two blue indicators on the timeline but separated by a grey section on the timeline for about 40 seconds. I need to be able to create one clip that includes the two blue events and the grey recording. The home app does not have this functionality but apparently the nest app and nest web platform does. My camera is new so I'm unable to connect to those two software solutions. The functionality has been there in the past but not now for new user's.

Hi daddowam,
Thanks for clarifying that. I've managed to double check everything for you just to make sure that we don't miss anything. I've confirmed that you can only download video clips from detected events in the video history. You cannot download video clips from footage with no activity. The maximum clip length setting for your camera or doorbell will affect how long video clips can be.
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us and we're always looking for ways to improve. We'll take this as feedback. Let me know if I can assist you with anything else.

Thanks JT
From what MplsCustomer wrote it seems like the VP of Google Nest is aware of the customer concerns and has said that there should be a resolution to this lack of functionality this year. It would be great to find out if this is true and when we may see the release of that functionality.
Fingers crossed for some good news on the horizon...
