Replacement magnetic mounts for Google cameras

ericede
Community Member

I have 4 cameras and only 2 mounts. I sold my house and didn't take down my mounts. I thought they would be easy to replace once I purchased my new home. I didn't realize they were impossible to replace... unless you count people price gouging on ebay. I find it hard to believe that such an expensive item doesn't have replacement parts that customers can buy. It's my hope that Google has some sort of backline process for ordering this part.

@ericede

Google Nest does not sell any spare parts. However, Google Nest Support (https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp) might provide one if you are under the 1-year warranty.

At the end of the thread below, another customer found a 3rd-party source that sells magnets that you might be able to use:

Unfortunately, I tried emailing Google support while I was still within my 1 year period and they never responded. It's crazy that we have to look for 3rd party solutions that "may" work. There are so many people looking for the same solution. So much so that people sell used Google mounts on ebay for $60 - $80. Everyone who is looking for this part needs to post about it or contact support. Fill out the survey and say that your issue was not resolved.

I did contact support chat and they initiated a RMA for my 2 cameras. I think it's silly because I don't deserve 2 free mounts or camera replacements, if that is indeed what they are planning to do. These are parts I'd be willing to pay for. We shall see.

I did want to add this link that @MplsCustomer was talking about in the reply. It is a company that sells magnets and one of the things they make is a magnetic plate with a countersunk hole in the middle, for roughly $19:

https://jc-magnetics.com/Countersunk/Magnet-N52-50mmx5mm-Hole-6mm-Countersunk-Ring

It seems like some people have successfully used this to replace their wall mount. I'm not sure how it might hold up to direct weather exposure. I would probably paint it first. I'm still waiting to hear back from Goggle support, about what it means to warranty my 2 cameras, for missing mounting plates.

The RMA parts they sent me were not the correct part. After contacting them they said they don't have the magnetic mounts and that I have to do a full product replacement

Google RMA'd my cameras and sent me new cameras. I have mixed feelings because I had 2 fully functional cameras, that were fully functional, that just needed mounts but I am grateful to have the issue resolved. I would have preferred to just purchase new mounts.
