Stupid Question about event history

I've never dealt with security cameras, smart home stuff, or any of that so pardon me if I am clueless and its a silly question lol

I've tried to find the answer to this and I am finding it very confusing.  We wanted to get indoor security cameras with 24/7 continuous recording.  We have allot of issues with our kids doing things then lying about it, or stealing food from the kitchen then lying about it.   We rent our house so we cant hard wire cameras in, and I don't like cords all over so we got the nest cam indoor/outdoor battery cam and planned on getting a nest aware plus sub for the $120 a year, only to find for 24/7 continuous recording we need it wired and plugged in all the time.

Here is where I am confused, it says I get 3 hours free event history without a sub, and then 30/60 days of event history depending on which sub I pick.

Does that mean that it only records when an event is detected, and when it is like a stop watch starts, and when the event finishes the timer stops, and that is what is subtracted from the allotted 3 hours? So If I have my camera in the kitchen  but for 1 days my son only goes in there once for like 3 minutes, ill have 2 hours and 57 minutes left of allotted time? And it will keep saving events until all the time is used up no matter if it is used up in a day or a week?

And for the subs, does the 30/60 days of event time mean that for 30 days I will be able to view ANY event regardless of how much time they total out with in the 30 or 60 day window?

Again sorry if the question is silly, I really am confused and oblivious to all this tech stuff lol

For the 3 hour free history, it’s not a timer type set up but I can see how it looks like that. It works based on the most recent 3 hours. For example you turn on your camera at 12PM. The camera will then record “events” as they occur. At 3:01PM, any video history from 12PM starts to delete. At 3:02PM, any video history from 12:01PM starts to delete and so on. Does that make sense? It just holds the recent three hours.

For the subscription, yes you can view any and all events no matter what length those events actually are so long as the event falls in that 30/60 day window, depending on the sub. For the continuous video for example, you can scroll through the most recent 10 days worth of video history. But for the 30/60 day (depending on sub) you can scroll through events.

One thing to note is “events” aren’t always so clear. You will find sometimes a person can walk right by the camera and the camera won’t capture it. It’s not always but it happens.
