Temporary passwords for vendors

AMBinTexas
Community Member

A vendor is trying to fix a problem

I am having with my nest doorbell camera, which I access from google home.

The vendor has asked for access to the doorbell app, but I would prefer not to give him my overall google password which I use for google home which I believe  allows access to all things google, including my gmail account.

Can I create a temporary password for google home just for the vendor which I can erase after he is finished?

Hi AMBinTexas,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. We would recommend you to invite him as a family member and remove him/her after he's done.

Invite members to a home:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. If you have more than one home, tap Favorites . At the top, select the home you want to edit.
  3. Tap Settings tap Add Add and then Home member.
  4. Enter the name or email address of the person you want to invite to your home and then tap Next.
  5. Review what’s shared when you add someone to your home and then tap Next.
  6. Review the person’s access to your home and then tap Send.
  7. If your Google Family Group isn’t full and the person you’re inviting isn’t already in one, you should get the option to invite them to your Google Family Group.
  • To invite them, tap Add to Family.
  • To skip this step, tap No Thanks.
  • Note: You can have up to 6 members in a Google Family Group.

The person you invite should receive an email with instructions.

Note: If the person you want to invite has already requested to join your home, you need to accept that request instead of sending a new invitation.

Hi there,

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the opportunity to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Thanks for the help, @Emerson.

Best,
Edmond
