Unable to add Nest Cameras (all wired and gen2) to Nest App. Setup on Google Home is fine.

So I've pulled the trigger and bought the Gen 2 Nest Doorbell, Outdoor/Indoor Nest Camera + Weatherproof Cable, and Indoor Wired 2nd Gen Cameras. I'm unable to add the wired 2nd gen indoor camera to the Nest App and can only view it through the Google Home app. I've subscribed to the Nest Aware Plus plan. I want to use the Nest App to view cameras.

I get to the screen that says "Choose the last 4 digits of your camera's serial number" and it won't load the serial numbers. I've uninstalled the nest app, restarted, reinstalled and get the same result. I'm also on a Pixel 7 Pro.

Google Nest decided that the new Google Nest cameras and doorbells released starting later in 2021 (including those you purchased) would work ONLY in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app or on the home.nest.com website. We discovered that over a year ago when we bought a new Google Nest Camera (Battery) and have had to use 2 apps ever since.

Your Nest Aware subscription will cover all cameras, old and new, in the same Google Nest "home/structure", but for the newer cameras you'll have to use the Google Home app to view their history.

Google Nest does have a new pilot website, home.google.com, where you can view livestreams from all your cameras. Perhaps they'll had history there at some point.

Unfortunately all 2nd gen google cameras are not compatible with the nest app only the Google home app.  I have first gen cameras and bought some 2nd gen cameras - i then had to buy some more first gen cameras so all could be seen together in the nest app.  The update google home app does allow for multiple camera views now and is compatible with first and second gen cameras click on the cameras link on the google home app.  I think google plan to phase out nest app in the future - which is a shame.

I have had the same problem with two new camaras that I have bought in the last few months. The new generation of cameras will only be added to the Google Home app and can't be loaded to the Nest app. However, your first generation of Nest cameras can be loaded to the Google Home app with your profile account.

Hi there,

Thank you for your feedback on this, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest cams in the Nest app like you may be used too. However, you can now use the Google Home web app to view your cameras and doorbells.

The new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support.

Best regards,

Brad
