Way too sensitive for floodlight

binghambloke
Community Member

Had my nest cam with floodlight a year now and I've got to say not without issues.

It alerts to vehicle movement every time it rains at night. The cars are parked nothing else there but rain seems to indicate movement enough to report vehicle moving. Only ever happens at night.

Then just recently the floodlight is going off way too often. I think it's picking up the wind blowing the trees/bushes. Nothing else I can think of even though sensitivity is on low to try and stop it

Its going off all the time so much so I've had to turn it off which defeats the object. Any help or thoughts please?

Hello binghambloke,

We appreciate your effort in posting here in the community. There are a few things that can trigger unwanted alerts or false positives, here are common triggers to name a few:

  • Changes in the light level
  • Shadow moving across the frame. For example, if a cloud moves in front of the sun.
  • Trees or bushes swaying near the customer’s important areas.
  • Headlights or flashing entering the field of view.

You might want to consider changing the position of your camera or set up your activity zones. With this you can draw a zone around a specific area in your camera’s view to get the activities that you want to be notified about. Hit this link for more information about activity zones.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,
Emerson

Hello binghambloke,

I just wanted to follow up and see if the steps above work? Let me know if you have any additional questions from here.

I have a small activity zone but not sure the sensor for the light uses that because the bushes/trees are outside that zone and the light from a neighbours house is also outside that zone.

It is not recording it as an event or anything like that but it is enough to keep triggering the light, which when opposite neighbours homes is not good.

I have other 'normal' security lights and they remain off during the same weather and only people or animals trigger the light to come on.

Hi binghambloke,

I appreciate you getting back to us. To confirm, Is your car inside that activity zone or outside? To know more about the settings of the Nest Cam with Floodlight, just hit this link

Give these steps a try:

  • Try restarting your camera.
  • Change the angle of your camera a little bit to check the difference.
  • Remove and re-add the activity zones.
  • Reset it to the factory default and add it back to the Google Home App.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Emerson

The cars are in the activity zone as that is why it is set up as a security camera on them.

I have reset everything today so removed the device completely and factory reset as I had to change everything for a new internet router and WiFi name.

What I have found by doing that is it has lost all my history which I was not expecting as I have Nest Aware so expected that to be saved away and to be able to access that. I wanted to look back so I could see the angle my camera was previously.

Will see how that goes now in terms of the lights activity and triggering an event when it rains at night.

Hi binghambloke,

I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your recorded video history. Doing a factory reset erases all your personalized settings, deletes the entire video history, and restores the factory default settings. It won’t automatically reconnect to WI-Fi, and you’ll need to set it up again.

Looking forward to your update.

Emerson
