What is the point of a camera that only provides live feeds

What is the point of an outdoor camera that only provides live feeds. Especially when it takes 1-3 minutes to get the feed to load?

Give us the option to drain the battery and record 24/7.  Don’t make that product choice for us.

Use case:  This user experience is just the worst.  I am trying to find out what animal is sneaking into my backyard and making a mess of my garden.  I hear noises out there in the dark, so I try to turn on the Google Home app, and see the video (which takes me about 5 clicks because the Google Hole App UI is god awful). After about 2-3 minutes of refreshing and clicking “live video” the event is over. Just when I don’t care, it loads up, and I can now see live video of nothing.  Literally worst UI in the world.

2 Suggestions:

1. allow users to choose whether to drain their battery and charge it every night. 2. or allow users to customize their Google Home layout and home page.  I would have that outdoor camera on my default screen, since that’s the only reason I open that crap app.

PS. Only having “live video” that takes 2 minutes to load is the same as me walking outside to see what’s going on.  I can do that for free.

As the owner of a Google Nest Camera (Battery) since Sept. 2021--plugged in with the optional power cable--my impression is that the camera is not very useful in battery mode. Since ours is plugged in all the time, it is "Live" all the time, it does a better job at detecting events because it doesn't have to wake up first, it provides 24/7 recording (with our Nest Aware Plus subscription), and its battery doesn't deplete in cold weather.

We've been waiting for Google Nest to live up to its Sept. 29, 2021 commitment "to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app" and "a desktop experience for the Google Home app" (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Message-from-our-GM-Updates-for-our-Nest-customers/ba-p/...). We'd especially like to get the ability to edit clips, the Google Nest app's timeline capabilities,  the ability to set an "Enhance" mode, and the ability to view our camera on our computer--all features in our older cameras.

Excellent. I’ll give it a thumbs up. Pretty big disappointment after the “mothership” came to add all its engineering prowess to a once perfectly effective brand!  In battery mode, it’s an expensive magnet.

Hey there,

Sorry to hear that you haven't had the best experience. I know I would feel the same if I were in your shoes. I think it might help if you have a Nest Aware subscription. Here is a great link on how Nest Aware works and how to subscribe, and here is a link on how to manage your subscription.

Best Regards,

Brad
