Since enabling my Nest Aware on my cameras, it's recording movement and people but only in short back-to-back videos. Time length is inconsistent. 15s, 7s, sometimes 1 minute. How can I get it to be one consistent video?

Hi ScottAshworth,
Read this article. I hope it will be helpful for you.

I appreciate the article but I'm looking to adjust the length of the video that Nest Aware captures before I try to create a clip. The video captured in the viewing history automatically is extremely short. I am hoping that I can adjust a setting somewhere that will allow Nest Aware to enable the capture to be longer from which I can then review activity to determine what I want to clip.

Hi there,
I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I definitely understand how frustrating your situation must be, and I wanted to make sure that your concern was acknowledged. Do you still need help with this issue?
Best Regards,
Brad.

Hi Brad,
I'm not the OP, but can you share some info on how your motion detection and pre/post roll on the cameras work? I've lost count of how many times a video starts with the animal/person/vehicle appearing in the middle of the scene and then if they stop for a second the video just cuts off and it's like they teleported out of the scene. I haven't been able to find answers anywhere else and this kind of functionality is like... minimum expectation for a surveillance camera.
Thank you,
Ben

Hey Brad,
No offense, but I really just wanted the question answered. A quick glance around suggests you're just diving into all these posts, are drinking from the fire hose, and you're trying to respond to everything as quickly as possible (which I appreciate), but submitting a feedback form isn't what I was looking for.
If you ever get enough breathing room to answer "Do the cameras have pre and post roll? And if so, for how long?" it would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Ben

Thank you Brad!
I'll submit feedback to let them know that this functionality it crucial to motion-based surveillance systems and would immensely improve the customer experience while only minimally impacting upload/storage amounts/costs.

Not 100% what you're asking by "one consistent video", but the cameras record based on motion. If it detects 15 seconds of motion, that's the clip you get. That's just how it works. Recording a 60 second clip when there is 15 seconds of motion and 45 seconds of static nothing doesn't make sense. I think there's a higher tier Aware plan that allows 24/7 recording, but that's terribly inefficient from both a video review/playback and upload bandwidth limit standpoint.
If you think the clips are too short or missing video then you can try increasing the motion sensitivity. Unfortunately, they completely bungled the new cameras and that option is not even then. Don't get me started on pre and post roll video either. Good luck.

That may be how it's supposed to work but not for me. I'm having the same problem where a person, cat or vehicle is moving, let's say, 45 seconds in the zone but camera only records 7 seconds. It happens a lot and nothing wrong with my internet connection.

We are all having that problem Jay. If you see Brad's response above they do not do pre or post roll on the cameras, which is a pretty major issue that should be addressed asap. It's an industry standard feature that may not solve all of their motion detection/event issues, but would certainly be an improvement.

I'm having the same. problems. Being used to the wonderful old nest program, this is extremely disappointing. Especially since one of those (probably paid) reviews shows a picture of the delivery guy approaching from way at the end of the sidewalk all the way to the porch to deliver the package. Really great footage in the online product review. Definitely not so good in real life. Sooooo disappointed! I feel ripped off and tricked!

Me too Suzie. The old Nest supplied pre and post clips for me. I loved it! I'm very disappointed in Nest Aware. Also, I get timed out a lot now (blue circle). Never happened much with the old Nest. I'm going to look for a different system and quit Nest Aware.

I'm done with Google's purchase of Nest. But other startups are out there that will give me satisfaction. Until the big Goog buys them. It's a perpetual cycle for now.
