Why can't I save custom clips?

It allows me to download clips, but why can't I create me own clip to share? I caught a vehicle coming down my drive, past my camera, and it created a clip of it leaving. But nothing of it inbetween when it was sitting in front of my house. I have no ability to capture the full few minutes, but am relegated to it coming, and it going, which isn't what I need.

I had the ability to do this when I could view clips in the web browser on the old Nest cameras. Just another example of the huge step back in functionality with Home vs. Nest. Getting really tired of this to be honest. Seems like Google made a half-hearted attempt on this product line and then abandoned it.

I definitely understand how frustrating your situation must be, and I wanted to make sure that your concern was acknowledged. Do you still need help with this issue? I know that there's been a delay in response since you posted.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Yes, the community would still like a reply from the product team on this one. This is a huge missing feature and basic functionality in an app like this. Not to mention this functionality exited in the Nest app, but is missing in the Home app, making it a big step backward. We've heard ZERO from the Home team on roadmaps, planned features, etc. If they do not continue to improve the camera functionality this will be the last Home product I purchase. Not being able to save specific clips I dictate makes much of my home camera setup useless. The AI that picks when to start and stop clips is severely lacking, and cannot predict what my uses might be anyways. Literally, every other camera system out there allows the user to make their own clips, so why does Google think theirs is better this way?

Huge +1 to this issue.  I also bought a Floodlight Cam primarily for this functionality of being able to easily save my own clips, as I've done for years in the Nest App.  The "clips" the Home App pre-selects for me are almost always useless and don't capture the important part of the activity.  How can this functionality have been removed from these very expensive cameras?

Also, I'm now seeing that there are MANY questions about this issue going back over a year, but most of the threads are locked shortly after you ask if the person still needs help with the issue.  First, YES, we all still need help with this issue, it needs to be fixed asap!  And second, how can you know how significant an issue is for your users if you keep locking threads so nobody can follow up on them?  I had to go through a dozen threads before I found one that was still open so I could comment and +1 it.

Thank you for echoing this. I cannot believe that this still isn't a feature, years into this app. Every other competitor's system/app allows this. This honestly will likely be my last Google Home-related purchase. It just feels like they got halfway through migration from Nest and stopped. Like Nest, I expect these products will be abandoned in the next 12-24 months.

Are there any mechanisms to connect with the development team or product management team for the Home app outside of the feedback mechanism in the app?

Hi Brad, thanks for the message and info.

Can you tell us why you're "required to close and lock threads" even if those threads are not resolved?  I thought the point of a thread was to consolidate discussions about a topic, and not to splinter them.  With threads being locked, it forces users to repeatedly spawn new threads on the same topic when someone new comes along with a similar or related issue, or when previous posters are looking for an update.  It also makes it very hard for users searching for info about a topic to find the latest updates, when there are many threads about the same thing.

Is there any documentation we can see about this seemingly counterproductive policy?  Or a way to provide feedback to the Googlers who oversee this forum?
