Wired Nest Doorbell(1) sporadic ringing; NO notification on Google home speakers

My wired Nest doorbell/camera recently only rings doorbell once in a while - pushing the button may or may not ring the bell, but the blue circle disappears for several seconds and repeated pushing sometimes will generate a ring and sometimes not.

Also, now even when the doorbell does ring, i get no notification on the Google Home speakers.  But, I still do get camera notifications on my phone with video when someone comes to thee door,  Yes, they are all on the same WiFi network

Hi GHaak,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Community Forum. I’m sorry to know that your Nest Wired Doorbell is not working as you expected regarding the sporadic ringing, so don’t worry; it's a pleasure to assist you.

Please answer the following questions to help me assist you more efficiently.

  • What is the exact model of the Nest Doorbell you have?
  • What app are you using with this device?
  • Have you performed some troubleshooting steps? If so, what have you taken so far?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Daniel

I have a Nest Hello, bought in Nov. 2018.

Using the Google Home App

Troubleshooting:

  • They are all on the same WiFi Network
  • I have (with difficulty) released the Nest from the mount and done a reset pushing the reset hole for 12 seconds.
  • The camera has continued to send images to my phone app when it recognizes a person at the door
  • The doorbell button will usually ring the doorbell when I push the button, then it won't respond again for several seconds.  Then it takes pushing in different areas of the circle to get a response.
  • The light goes off for several seconds after the first push.
  • Though the button does cause the bell to ring, somewhat sopradically, and the camera works to send images to my phone with sound.  But, when the doorbell does ring, there is no notification sent to my Google home speakers - this is perhaps 2-3 months history.
  • I have checked all the settings, and notification settings that I can think of.

Thanks, Gary

Turn out that the doorbell button is not weather proof very well and stops working after a few years. Had to buy gen 2 model to replace faulty hello model google should do better job at sealing doorbell button.

OK, I've done all I can.  It seems that the doorbell button connectivity is sporadic - probably corrosion or something.

It only rings occasionally, and when it does ring the bell there is no notification to my Google home speakers.  The camera videos and notification are fine.

So I believe the doorbell button connections are corrupted.  Will a google Nest doorbell camera be an easy replacement (I installed itt myself.

I am having this exact same issue. My wired doorbell - I do not have a chime in my home - has stopped ringing, except on rare occasion. I still get notifications that there is a person at my door, but NO RING. I have multiple Google Nest speakers and hubs throughout my home, and a Pixel phone. NONE of these are ringing when the button is pushed. I can go out and push the button, and the outside ringtone sounds briefly, and is cut off, then doesn't ring again for several minutes. I bought this thing maybe 7 years ago, max.

My daughter's is starting to do the same thing.  It appears the doorbell button component (at least with the nest Hello version 1) isn't able to last outdoors - go figure.  My camera works fine, including sending notifications, but the "button only makes occasional contact to ring the inside doorbell, and, as I stated originally, when it does ring there are still no notifications.  Oh, well, replacing it works fine, and the new camera has a wider field of view.  It's just surprising that an outdoor device doesn't seem to be sealed well enough to withstand being outdoors for many years  - and, no, it doesn't get any direct rain.  It seems pretty clear that it is a hardware issue, not software.
