Is a AC 18V 500mA 9W transformer suitable for the wired google door bell

It seems you're talking about an indoor AC/AC power adapter.
There is not a lot of documentation around Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) working with AC/AC adapters.
Just make sure your adapter meets the requirements here: Check Nest doorbell compatibility - Google Nest Help.

The problem I have is converting the VA? My existing converter was for a Arlo door bell

9W should be good. See for instance this one working with a large range of doorbells, including the Nest Doorbell (wired) / Hello having the exact same requirements as the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen): 9W Power Supply Charging Adapter Charger For Transformer Ring Video Doorbell 5M | eBay

Hi everyone,
@JC80, thanks for posting here in the Community. The Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) has higher power requirements than most doorbells. You need a transformer that is rated for 16-24 V AC, 10-40 VA to provide enough power to your Nest Doorbell. If you've already installed your Nest Doorbell and you see a blinking yellow light on the front, your Nest Doorbell isn't receiving enough power. Hit this link for more information.
I appreciate the help, alex2023.

Emerson

Hey JC80,
You’re welcome! The Nest Doorbell (battery) requires a voltage of 8 to 24 VAC and power is 10 VA. To learn more, have a look at this guide: Check Nest doorbell compatibility.
I appreciate the help here, alex2023 and Emerson.
Thanks,
JT
