Chrome cast

I have set up two different chrome casts that used to work fine, reset them both and re-added them to google home, and connected them to wifi. However for some reason it keeps saying disconnected device even though I’m connected to wifi and my local network settings is enabled. It used to work fine and not sure what happened and now I can’t cast at all.

Hi ameliag,

If you have reset both of your Chromecast devices and re-added them to Google Home, but they still show as disconnected, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Check the Wi-Fi connection
Make sure your Chromecast devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone or tablet. Sometimes, it may be necessary to restart your Wi-Fi router to resolve connectivity issues.

  2. Disable VPN
If you're using a VPN connection on your device, try disabling it and connecting to the Wi-Fi network again.

  3. Update the Chromecast firmware
Ensure that both Chromecast devices are running the latest firmware by opening the Google Home app, selecting the Chromecast, and tapping "Settings." From there, tap "More" and then "Firmware Update."

  4. Factory reset and reconfigure the Chromecast
Try performing a factory reset of the Chromecast devices and set them up again. To do this, press and hold the reset button on the device for about 25 seconds until the device resets.

  5. Check the router settings
Ensure that your router is configured to allow communication between the Chromecast devices and other devices on your network. You may need to consult your router manual or contact your ISP for assistance with router settings.

If none of these steps solve the problem, you may need to contact Google Home support for further assistance.

Hi,

i have tried everything but nothing works and it keeps saying “something went wrong” and won’t pair up.

my issue is the same... new provider set up new home network.  Heck my chromecast can be seen by everyone and every device but google home can't seem to pair it. It's so old tho that there is no reset button. After getting something went wrong 5 times maybe I'll have to buy another one, that google home can pair.

Yeah I think I’m in the same boat. Old chrome cast. No reset button. It’s just stopped working. Spend 10minutes to half hour EVERY night doing various restarts and on/off stuff to get it to work then start again next night. Might be time for new one. Grrr.

Thank you for helping out on this thread, AriefAnshori!

Hey there everyone,

I'm just checking up on this thread; is anyone still experiencing this issue? If so, go ahead and follow these steps provided by davidking to see if they help resolve your error. If the problem persists, let me know what model of Chromecast you are using, and what color the LED light is on the Chromecast when this problem occurs.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Jeran

Hey everyone,

Does anyone have any more questions that I can address?

Thank you,
Jeran

No more questions from me. I’ve tried all the steps and it still plays up. Won’t cast from my phone to tv. But it works sometimes for some reason. Then it doesn’t! I think it may be a wifi issue? The google home app can see my tv. But a streaming app can’t. That sort of thing. It’s weird.

Hiya Aquamonkey69,

No problem at all. It is interesting that casting works intermittently. In that case, would you please go ahead and follow the troubleshooting steps listed in this article? Let me know if you have trouble with any of the steps, and I'd be happy to help out.

Best regards,

Jeran

I did end up factory resetting it. It ‘seems’ to be working so far. I did this about a week ago. Has still played up a few times after that. But I removed Netflix app and weirdly, it works all the time now! Coincidence? Not sure. But good for now regardless. Thanks.

Hi Aquamonkey69,

Thanks for updating us. Glad to know that it is already working now.

Since this has been resolved, we'll consider this complete and will lock the thread now. Feel free to start a new one if you need assistance with your Chromecast devices and the Community would gladly lend a hand.

Best,

Princess
