Chromecast Restarts When Attempting to Cast

When I try to cast a show (tried both prime video and Netflix, both apps up to date) the chrome cast would say "ready to cast and show the app's home screen, but as soon as I hit play on a show, it would restart. I tried factory resetting it and rebooting it, but the problem is still happening.

Thanks for reaching out and for being a step ahead of us. Let's check this further.

 

A few questions: what type of Chromecast device do you have? When did the issue start? Is the video playing problem-free on the device when not casting?

 

Try these additional steps:

 

  1. Reboot your Wi-Fi router.
  2. Reboot your mobile phone.
  3. Play other videos and try other apps.
  4. Clear the data and/or cache of the app that experiences the issue.
  5. Delete and reinstall the app that experiences the issue.
  6. Turn off mobile data or if you're using a Samsung Galaxy phone, please turn off the Smart Network Switch.
  7. Turn off any power or battery saving mode.
  8. Disable and re-enable Automatic date and time and Automatic time zone.
  9. Check for system updates on the mobile device.
  10. Try to cast from other devices.
  11. Reboot your Chromecast again.
  12. Try to plug it in on a different HDMI port on your TV.
  13. Try to plug it in on a different TV screen if possible.
  14. Perform another factory reset on your Chromecast.
