Chromecast Ultra stopped showing the options menu for Youtube

Like it says above Chromecast Ultra stopped showing the options menu for YouTube. used to get a preview of stuff to choose from but it isn't there anymore. The mini says it is displayed on the screen and asks me to choose but nothing is there. If I say a number, it starts playing. Both dongles quit showing it at the same time. They both have the same firmware and I have even done a factory rest on one of them. It still isn't showing on the screen. Anyone have this issue before?

@Jeran @JenniferV it is coming up to a year since my issues started. What gives? This has been as reliable as Chromecast has been...... not showing any results and having us guess.

Now I'm getting an email that asks me if I got a reply, did it solve my problem and to mark as an accepted solution - NO I haven't got a reply to my problem - apparently the "Team" she has working on this issue takes weeks to give an update to this issue of Chromecast not showing You Tube options  - Any idea of when this might get resolved JenniferV ?????

I’m sorry to say, this community site is a poor way to interface with Google.  Often the responses back are generic, reboot, factory reset, etc.  When there is an issue, it’s not obviously linked to an actual ticket to be addressed and tracked, even when acknowledged.  There are some pretty surprising bugs as of late, and I’m very surprised how weakly Google updates it’s customer base on the progress to address such bugs.

My chromecast gen 2 firmware version is

1.56.275994

My Google mini firmware version is

1.56.282045

Hello, like many others here, I can no longer see the suggested options on my Chromecast. They are there because if I say "play option 3", it will play something; I just have to hope it is what I was looking for, or else I have to cast from my Android. I have factory reset everything, so that's a few moments of life I will never get back, and still, it doesn't help with the problem. What is going on?

Out of interest, do you have your nest/mini speaker set to a different language or voice than the standard one?

Working on a fix is not a solution. How can this thread have marked as fixed when it is being fixed?

I just finished a chat with your Chromecast supports team, and they passed me to two different agents, but none of them understand the problem and needless to mention a resolution. How disappointing to your customers!

Agreed. It shouldn't be marked as resolved yet. It seems very dishonest.

We all get the notification when you post. There was no need to mark an unsolved problem as solved.

If you truly knew what the problem was you would be able to tell us. There has to be something different about our setups than those that work. 

It is NOT solved if it is still ongoing, that is not what SOLVED means!

Same issue on a brand new Chromecast with Google TV having same lack of control. 

Hard reset on home mini, all set up with latest firmware on all devices. 

All logged in on same account. 

Assistant on speaker can pause and play, and stop, but not search or offer options to watch.

The home mini will open YouTube on the TV, but that’s as far as it can go. 

Additionally, if you try and rewind a couple of minutes while watching a livestream on YouTube, it restarts the stream from the beginning and won’t let you rewind and fast forward in small hops. It just replays from the start. Not sure if that is part of same technical problem. 

 

 

 

 

Any ideal when this will be fixed

If it helps, I’m wondering whether it’s something to do with the personalisation settings.

Our Google home minis/nests/assistant have the language set as Indian English, and that’s how they speak.

The assistant built into the Chromecast ultra is a non-indian UK English speaking voice.

I wonder if this mismatch is something to do with the problem?

The Chromecast Assistant is not picking up our personalised settings.

Hi, just wondering if a fix was ever released for this issue? I’be been having the same problem for quite some time now.

3 months later. @JenniferV has there been any progress made? I called support and they told me that it was because I didn't have YouTube premium. Sounded like a made up excuse, but I bought a trial membership just to confirm my suspicions. This has not been fixed and nobody seems to have a work around. Absolutely brutal

Same, I've factory reset all existing devices, including phone, home group and new account, even bought a new Chromecast TV to see if it's old hardware. Nothing works.

@JenniferVYour team identified the issue back in August... I understand backlogged tasks when it comes to software development, but this seems to be a crucial feature for a chromecast device that a great many are affected by it's failure. Since it has been 3 months since the identified issue, would an escalation be possible to get more developers to service this task and get it added to the next firmware release? This is a growing community of unsatisfied Google users, who some have mentioned, rely on this feature for special needs. Thank you.

@JenniferV, I am one of those users with special needs. This lack of communication and even the company's recent products truly make me feel like Google doesn't care about accessibility. It honestly brings me to tears because every bit of independence is meaningful to me and now I am increasingly without.

This is obviously due to another rubbish firmware update, which messed it up!

Why can't your tech track it back to when it worked correctly and copy that back in to an update!!!?
