Need to find Chromecast Firmware version, 2nd Generation-

How to check your firmware version

To check which firmware version you're on:

  1. Open the Google Home app Fyreman_0-1636661619042.png.
  2. Tap your device Fyreman_1-1636661618980.png Settings Fyreman_2-1636661619038.png Fyreman_3-1636661618982.png Device information.
  3. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: X.XXX.XXXXX.   "TECHNICAL INFORMATION" tab is not present

Hi,

Can you add a screenshot? I see the firmware version when I scroll to the bottom of the Device info under the device settings.

Google Home app>Casting device>cog>Device Info>scroll to Cast Firmware.

I uploaded the image through my Gmail. All it shows is "Family TV Settings" then it's blank underneath.

Hey there,

Just to double-check, what version of Google Home are you using? I can confirm, on my Android device using version 2.46.1.7 of the Google Home app, that Jill's steps work for finding the firmware version on my devices.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Jeran, that is the problem. My Google Home / Chromecast does NOT show the version. It is BLANK underneath the heading of the room I'm in. Thanx for reviewing this email. I'm using a Samsung S10 phone, if that has ANY bearing on the blank screen.

Give these steps a try, and after each step, double-check that Device information tab to see if the problem persists:

  • Check for any updates for the Google Home App in the Google Play Store.
  • Factory Reset the Chromecast device.
  • Uninstall and reinstall Google Home.

All of those actions should force update their respective versions and firmware. Go ahead and try those, then let me know if it still gives you issues!

Best regards,

Jeran

Update-

My Google Home App had the latest update.

The one that did the trick was the FACTORY RESET. Problem solved.

Didn't need to uninstall and reinstall Google Home.

Thanx for you help

Awesome, I'm glad to hear that! In that case, I'll go ahead and lock up this thread. If you run into any more issues in the future, feel free to create a new thread!

Thank you for your help on this, Jill!

Best regards,

Jeran
