Chromecast gltchy streaming issues

We're having different issues with our new Chromecast with Google TV - things we never experienced with our previous, very old Chromecast.

One streaming service (Peacock) is always glitchy. Every 5 minutes or so the show freezes and starts to...not sure how best to describe...shake...as if it's trying to restart but can't. You have to exit and resume each time to get it going again. This happens every time.

Other services - Hulu, Amazon Prime,  Apple TV - also freeze but less often and we don't get the shaky element. Mostly it doesn't unfreeze on its own. We have to exit the show at least once, sometimes 2-3 times, to kick start streaming again.

We also have trouble starting to cast from the Google TV interface or from a device - sometimes the tv screen goes black or gets stuck on loading and sometimes we get the message "video unavailable...we are experiencing a problem with this video" - even if we were just watching the show a few minutes before.

Then today, we started to experience a lot of display instability and screen flickering, which is sometimes followed by the "video unavailable" message.

I checked our internet and everything is fine with connectivity and speed and we can stream fine using an old Xbox that's also hooked up to the tv. I've also unplugged the chromecast several times to try to reset it

Is there something else I can do to troubleshoot? Did we get a bad stick? It seemed to work ok for the 1st week or so except for the Peacock issue - we saw that from Day 1.  Now we have glitches almost every time we try to use it, and with multiple services.

Hi glono,

Thanks for reaching out. Let’s check what’s going on. What Chromecast device are we working on? When did it start? What is the distance between your Chromecast and Wi-Fi router? Give the steps below a try and let me know how it goes:

  1. Plug in your Chromecast into a different HDMI port on your TV.
  2. Reboot your TV and Wi-Fi router.
  3. Reset your Chromecast device

Thanks,

Juni

I have the same issues only in Amazon Prime Android TV. I spoke with Amazon about this. They told me that this issue is a common problem that google chromecast is to blame. Can you please fix this?

Hiya Hexadecymal,

I can't say I've personally noticed or have seen this issue around here much. If you haven't already, make sure your Android TV's firmware is up-to-date, then clear out the cached app data on the Amazon Prime app. If the problem persists, go ahead and uninstall and reinstall the Amazon Prime app. If all else fails, you could attempt a factory reset on your TV.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Jeran

Done. Issue still exist.

Hello Hexadecymal,

Shoot, it's a shot in the dark, but perhaps the folks over at the Android TV forum would be aware of any issues, since the Android TV hardware is quite different from the Chromecast with Google TV.

Let me know if you decide to go that route, or if you would prefer, we can have Android TV support reach out to you.

Best regards,
Jeran

Thank you for helping out on this thread, Juni!

Hey there glono,

I'm just checking up on this thread, do you have any more questions or need any additional help?

Hi! Thanks for helping out with this issue. Straight up honest ...it's been too hectic lately to give it my full attention. We've been casting from our phones for now, bypassing the Google console and we finished watching the shows on Peacock (most glitchy) and Apple TV (somewhat glitchy) that were giving us trouble.

We're using Chromecast HD model G454V. I've tried all of the troubleshooting recommendations except resetting the device so I'll give that a shot and retry the others.  Fingers crossed. Either way, your help is much appreciated!

Hey glono,

I'm just checking up here again. Were you able to resolve those casting issues with your Chromecast? If not, let us know, and we can try some more troubleshooting if you'd like.

Thank you,
Jeran

Hi,

Still trying to troubleshoot. Tried factory reset but now I'm stuck on the "Start Pairing" step.  I get the pulsing white light but Google TV just keeps cycling on the instructions in different languages for that step - never advances to the confirmation screen.

Never mind...was able to troubleshoot the pairing step issue. Back a bit later to confirm if reset cleared up the glitchies.

Hi,

I'm back. Definitely still glitchy after the factory reset. Can't watch anything without it freezing every few minutes - sometimes it's just for 1-2 seconds and sometimes it's totally frozen so we have to exit the show and come back in.
