Chromecast w Google TV frame rate stutter

salputrid
Community Member

This happens across all apps some more than others.

I am using the Google TV interface.

This was not an issue with the Chromecast 3rd gen when I cast from my iphone.

Hi folks,

I'm sorry for the late response. This has been forwarded to the team and they're looking into this. I'll loop back in once we have an update about this.

Best,

Jennifer

My Android TV OS Build is STTE.220920.016.H1.9408258. Previous version was .015.A1

I got this one middle Feb and nothing has changed

Fair enough. Guess only a matter of time before the stuttering returns for me as well then.
Did your Google TV home screen update at that time as well? My profile picture now appears on the top left of the screen. Before yesterday it was in the top right.

after about an hour of working flawlessly the stuttering is back.

Had the exact same thing with the last update, worked for a couple of hours then it was back.

The poor performance has not changed for all of 2023 for me, I switch over every few weeks to see if it works yet and then abandon it again. Last night I tried Picard on Paramount Plus and got whiplash trying to watch it.

Is it possible to manually set the frame rate in the settings to match the content, and does that help?

You can change the HZ manually in the settnings . But sometimes it makes bo diffrence . Its like the settnings dont work att all . Sometimes when I choose 4k 60hz . I get a massage chromecast dont support 8k 60hz ? Like wtf haha. Only settnings thats works for me is 4k smpte....

I never tried it before I returned my CCwGTV4K, but it really looked like "frame drops" to me, not typical judder.  It was a big glitch and irregular, which is why I guessed it was drops.

I have since bough a different device that also does no do automatic frame rate switching, but the manual switching seems to work.

Yeah its dropping frames for me aswell . especially in 4k 60HZ . Tried too watch toy story on Disney+. Unwatchable ....

Same problem for me. After a while watching a movie the playback just starts to get "laggy", pausing does not work (actually might be the cause as it seems to start awhile after pausing). The only thing that works is to restart the thing and it works for a while longer.

After connecting a way-too-large larger wall adapter for the USB power (iirc it's 30-some watts), this problem seems to have gone away.

Arken

I tried that . Tried a 60watts from samsung  . Still lagging movies 😪

I have the same issue with netflix and prime video. I use an adapter that enables me to use a network cable, and I have gigglebyte internet.

Same issues here both on the HD as the 4K version I see picture distrotions every so often. Watching Yellowstone on Skyshowtime and all of the sudden the picture seems to skip frames and then return to smoother image. Very disappointed to learn so many of us are experiencing this and no google solution or reply...

Write too Google support . Im having a battle with them now . But you gonna need a small video prove the lag for them ..

RomanSeano

They are still asking for that? Send them the link to this support thread.

Months of people here describing the issue (not to mention Google staff here acknowledging they're aware of it) they are now WAY past "needing proof" of the problem's existence.

Arken
Community Member

Yeah . Just write too their support . We all must do that i think. Or they wont do anything ..

At this point, if they care at all, I suspect getting a fix may take the launch of a new device with new software. The engineering team may have just moved on the the next product.

It's a confusing bug, as most do not understand the differences between stutter, judder and frame drops. Nor do they know if they have set the device to the proper frame rate for the content. So google can hide behind those explanations...

My children look Disney.... don’t understand why I continue to paid for this result....

The only change that has improved this at all for me is changing the video output to 50 Hz.  All other settings make no difference. Factory resetting (from the menu or the physical button on the device) also makes no difference.

Arken
Community Member

Write the support or they will do nothing . And you need video proof of the lag stutter ..

BK
Community Member

Yup I’m in the process now. Their first question is to ask if I have tried it on a different TV. It’s like they have never heard of the problem before. Even if it did work on a different tv, I want it to work in the one I bought it for!

Yikes. They are probably doing a classic flow shart...."Have you restarted the divice?" Etc...Just taket a look att this thread please...

To be fair, I had a previous complaint with this Chromecast (not jerky video) and discovered when they told me to try another TV that the problem was a video splitter that I had connected it through, and not the Chromecast.

BK
Community Member

Yes that would make sense. I have tried the CCWGT on all the hdmi inputs on my tv, at all output frequencies, reset multiple times. Just need the software fixed!

Arken

I have tried on 3 tv.s and my computer screen . Same problem .

It is a software issue for sure. It's not the hardware's problem. Even if they launch a new product, the current Android TV version is the problem and the new device would have the same issues.

The Youtube App has no such issues because the devs implemented the code correctly. I believe all other streaming apps haven't updated their code for the new frame matching, so we are stuck waiting for the fix from Google, but they won't back-track their changes. They probably launched a new feature too early for other apps to catch up.

Please, everyone, keep on bumping this thread so they prioritize the fix.

Yeah they need too fix this mess . It works good If cast from my pc to the chromecast . But all apps on the device is **bleep** .
