Chromecast was set up but successfully but cant be found

I know there was at least one prior post on this subject, but I certainly didn't experience a solution.  My Chromecast has been misbehaving lately for no apparently reason. Upon factory reset, then set up, I get the above message. The pro[posed solutions given by Google do not apply to my router (AP what?) I have no Chromecast button visible, which was my original problem, so casting is dead in the water. Help! Trying to cast YouTube and YouTube TV from my laptop and my Android phone to my dumb TV. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear that you are having an issue with your Chromecast device. Let's dig deeper into this.

 

To clarify, is the Chromecast setup successfully? If yes, is the cast button not visible in all Chromecast-enabled apps?

 

Try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your casting device, Chromecast, and router are within 15 to 20 feet from each other.
  2. Make sure your phone and laptop are connected on the same WiFi network as your Chromecast.
  3. Reboot your Chromecast, WiFi router, and casting device.
