Chromecast with Google TV & Nest

Chazz
Community Member

I cannot view my Nest wireless doorbell on my Chromecast with Google TV.

When I issue query "Show Front door" using Chromecast remote voice assistant button  I get "Sorry it looks like the front door doorbell doesn't support streaming to remote screens".

I have a Google mini in the same room when I issue the query adding "on the TV" I get the same fallback, error message.

Chromecast with Google TV latest OS 10, firmware 1.52.253741

Nest Doorbell (battery) software v1.57 OPENMASTER 266328

All other Google hubs are able to see doorbell camera as well as phones using Google Home.

Nest login migrated to Google which makes Nest app on Chromecast with Google TV  inaccessible.

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, Nest Doorbell (battery) can only stream to a smart display screen, not to a TV screen via Chromecast. Learn how to stream your security camera using a Google Nest display.

It works for me on a Chromecast 3. I'm wondering if this might be an issue with the CCwGTV. I'll check around to see if anyone can reproduce.

I'm wondering if maybe it needs the Nest app on your CCwGTV. Can you check to see if there is an app you can install and configure?

Thank you David.

The Chromecast with Google TV has the Nest app, but this is made inaccessible once user has migrated to Google sign in.  This is a feature that would improve UX. An update to the Nest app or the ability to access the camera(s) through the remote voice assistant would be beneficial adding an additional level of security. Except in this instance, there is no real benefit to having a smart display in the same room as a Chromecast with  Google TV as Nest thermostats, lighting, locks, outlets, switches can all be accessed and controlled. Only the cameras are omitted.

I completely agree. As this is a mostly a user to user community, if this is important to you, I’d encourage you to also send this feedback directly to Google. You will not receive a response, unless Google need more details from you, however the team are still reading the feedback.
