Connect Vizio Crave speaker with Google home App

Brucek90

I just bought a Vizio Crave 360 speaker to add to my other speakers using 4 chromecast audios. The Google website says that it is ChromeCast compatible but I haven't been able to find the device using Google home. Am I doing something wrong or is this not actually compatible.

  1. First download the VIZIO SmartCast Mobile app and setup the device according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Once setup, open the Google Home app.
  3. Tap Devices at the bottom, then tap Add.
  4. Tap Works with Google.
  5. Tap the search icon top right, search for and tap VIZIO SmartCast.
  6. Follow the steps on screen.

Hello David. I am having the same issue with this. I went to the Vizio app. Added the speaker. Went back to the Google Home app to add a new device but on the Google Home app it states "Couldn’t connect to Chromecast built-in speaker. Make sure local network access is enabled for the Home app in your phone's privacy settings. Then try again." My local network access is enabled. Any suggestions?

... also just read that Vizio is not updating their firmware and now the Vizio app is not compatible with the Google Home app. Is that true?

My firmware is updated but I still can’t connect. Google home finds the Crave but the connection fails.

I did. They weren’t very knowledgeable about the Crave, I assume it’s because they’re an older product.

Hello Brucek90,

Thanks for the reply. Isn’t that their product? Perhaps they have a particular team or a community where other users can share ideas, just like here in Google Community. We can’t just ask you to factory reset your Vizio device and end up causing a problem, which is why it’s best to ask them directly. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy

I’m not sure what the issue is but it was pretty obvious to me that Vizio support is less familiar with the Crave than I am. I think that Google and Vizio need to get together and figure out a solution.

Hi Brucek90,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. You must be referring to this page, which is a portal that highlights the manufacturers that have integrated Chromecast hardware into their products. Google manufactured the Chromecast devices that became appealing to users. TV, soundbar, and AVR manufacturers realized the great benefits of integrating this device into their products to attract consumers. Chromecast devices (including built-ins) should all comply with the cast technology standards in order for it to work with cast-enabled apps, different casting sources, platform-specific requirements (Smart TVs, etc.), manufacturer exclusives (Ambient mode, etc.), and different sorts. Now, these manufacturers can modify the Chromecast unit to perfectly match whatever they intend for their products, but they should comply with the standard that the actual Chromecast devices are following. If Google had applied the changes, not just Vizio but Sony, Samsung, Hisense, Panasonic, JBL, Yamaha, and hundreds of other manufacturers that incorporated Chromecast into their products would have been affected too. I hope this gives clarity. Let us know if you still have questions.

Thanks,

Kimy

Thanks, I’ve tried that process without success. So I need to setup the temporary Crave WiFi before using Google home?

You need to follow whatever the manufacturer's setup instructions are essentially. Only once the device is setup with the manufacturer's app can you then link it to Google Home.

I’ve made progress. I updated the firmware and now google home can find the crave but when I try to connect I get a connection failed message. I can also connect via Bluetooth using the Vizio remote app.
