Flashing red light

My Chromecast was working fine until it shut down with a blinking red light on it. I reset it and tried to reinstall. I can get to where I see the Chromecast WiFi, and select it, but after several minutes it says "Could not communicate with your Chromecast."

The TV is on the welcome screen like normal. How do I fix this?

If there’s a pulsing red LED light on your Chromecast device and a black TV screen, try the first step below and check if it resolves the issue. If it doesn't, move on to the next steps:

  1. Unplug your Chromecast from the power source, wait about one minute, and then plug it back in.
  2. Use the HDMI extender provided with your Chromecast device if you have one.
  3. Plug your Chromecast into another TV.
  4. Perform a factory reset.
