I'm getting ads on my Chromecast (2nd Generation) and I do not know why.
This problem started a couple of days ago when I started getting ads on YouTube-videos on my (Chromecast 2nd gen) even though I have Youtube Premium Lite (It is a cheaper version of Premium but the difference is that it only removes ads, it is so far only available in Europe). This has never been an issue before.
I figured this would stop I logged in but when I tried to log in I received this error message:
Basically it says in Swedish that I can't log in to this TV but that I can still watch as a guest.
I rarely watch YouTube on anything other than my Chromecast so it would be good to know if I should end my subscription to Premium Lite or if this problem can be solved.
BIG UPDATE: YouTube is now claiming on my post about this on Twitter that this issue has been solved. But from what I see it hasn't because alot of YouTube-users are still commenting on this post and showing photos which clearly shows this is still a problem.

I too have experienced all the frustrating issues described above. I've spent a lot of time and tried all the rebooting and clearing of caches and I am still getting a youtube screen on tv that I CAN'T SIGN INto. I too am paying for premium YouTube and would like my functionality back.

Same here, watching ads while paying Premium. We should all ask for a refund while this issue persists! Turn it back, Google! You intentionally did this without letting your consumers know! https://mobile.twitter.com/TeamYouTube/status/1537981161359585281

Same issue here, YouTube premium+ Chromecast Ultra. Only works as a guest.
From Italy.

Same problem here: "Can't sign in. You can still use youtube as a guest", every way I try to sign in. Reboots, unplugging and factory resets didn't fix the problem. Sign in via the Android app after a factory reset doesn't work either. Started after the june 13th firmware update (1.56.281627) on my Chromecast Ultra.

The Chromecast team seems to be aware of the issue: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/I-m-not-able-to-log-in-on-YouTube-on-my-Chromecast...

Your link points back to this very same page. Was that the link you meant to supply, the "main thread" link?

That is because the entire collections of posted comments from one page was moved from one page into this page including JenniferV post announcing the move - Inception like.

When I used to cast YouTube from the app on my phone and then navigate YouTube on the TV originally it was automatically signed into my profile on the TV menu.
Now it only starts in guest mode on the TV menu and it will not ket me attempt to sign in.

Hi there,
This has been reported to the Chromecast team.
Please subscribe to the forum thread linked below for any updates.

You should let the support people know.
I just wasted 75 minutes with support on this, they had no idea.
They didn't even know what Chromecast had a YouTube app -- kept trying to tell me it was my TV. Even after I sent them photos of the ultra...
I want my hour back!
Also, i want the ad free YouTube I'm paying for!

I don't work for Google, this is a community forum and I have reported this issue to the Google Chromecast team.

Hey there,
With this issue being identical to the thread you've linked, I'm going to go ahead and merge this with the main thread.
Thank you,
Jeran

According to this https://twitter.com/teamyoutube/status/1537338169108140033?s=21&t=7kw_GRCd52oCE5U20IgtTA
this is an intentional change, login in with chromecasts is not supported anymore.

Wow, as someone who pays for the Premium version of YouTube, that sucks, as when I use the "remote control" feature of YouTube the videos that I select/watch show commercials, since I'm not logged in on the actual Chromecast device with my account that the Premium is associated with. 😞

Hopefully it’s a miss understanding from the twitter people. Let’s see if they elaborate on the answers to that tweet.

Same issue, I now watch ads while paying for Premium, as long as this issue persists, Google should refund my Premium fee each month!
06-16-2022 04:34 AM
What the actual...?!?
Why am I paying for premium, when now I'm watching ads if I use the suggestions on my TV?!?
06-17-2022 08:34 PM
Why?? I spent 2 nights trying to fix this!! I am very, very frustrated and angry at Google now, what a mess! Tomorrow I will see if I move over to Apple TV. I am not going to watch ads on my tv while I pay for premium.
09-13-2022 06:06 PM
OMG!!! If it's intentional why they keep saying they're going to fix this!! So the solution should be buy new chromecast?? Funny ah?
Chromecast team s***ks!!!
Fix the error and let us sign in again

Can we get an Official response from the tweet below
https://twitter.com/TeamYouTube/status/1537338169108140033
Thx for the screenshots. Upon checking, this is intentional. Signing in directly to YT on older Chromecast devices is not supported anymore. You can control your cast sessions from your phone while you're logged in. To engage with vids, continue using your mobile device
06-16-2022 03:20 PM
The latest Youtube upgrade for Chromecast has removed the ability to sign in to YouTube on the Chromecast.
So on the Chromecast Youtube settings now randomly reset to default, so Autoplay sometimes cannot be disabled from your mobile device & if your a Premium YouTube member ads can randomly appear, all the time if your using the Youtube App remote, the latter useless to access your subscriptions, history , customised recommendations etc.
Oh by the way, you cannot even buy a Chromecast with Google TV from Google's own store website in NZ - they are still selling the now non-functioning Chromecast (3rd generation) which doesn't even support the resolution of the Chromecast Ultra. #ChromecastCantSignIn
06-16-2022 03:30 PM
+1 for an official response. If Google thinks they can force YouTube premium subscribers to upgrade by breaking the old devices, I will be upgrading my 5 Chromecast Ultras to a new ecosystem...
I cannot believe this is how those of us that PAY for a service are being treated. I HATE holding onto my phone when the family is watching our favourite videos, and not only have the suggestions on the Chromecast now been completely broken, but watching ads despite paying not to is diabolical.
08-29-2022 03:45 AM
Guess you might as well use apple tv. chances are that there will be support far longer than having to rely on googles own products. Who would have thought that it would be google 1st to blatantly engage in planned obsolescence in a long time. It's not like the chromecast was never able to sign in, they just chose to disable the function.

I'm having this problem with the Chromecast ultra that came with the Stadia bundle. Is that considered old?
07-05-2022 11:22 AM
Same here, bought only 6 months ago...

Sorry why is this marked as solved? The issue still persists on my chromecast ultra.
I upgraded to YT premium yesterday and finally bit the bullet to get rid of the ads. The alternative was to throw away the chromecast and go another route.
Are you seriously telling me the next day I find out Google intentionally brick my ability to sign in on the CC ultra?
They're definitely going in the bin if so and Google can shove the YT membership up it's ass.
edit - premium now cancelled. I'm gonna avoid all google products from now on. First it's the constant bombardment of ads then it's intentionally making perfectly good, 4k uhd hardware obsolete in the most anti consumer way I've seen in years. After I pay for premium access too?
Whoever makes these choices is just alienating their user base. If google seriously expect me to go and pay £400 to replace 5 perfectly good working chromecasts with the google tv version plus the lan adapter just because they've decided my hardware is too old I'm going to literally bin the lot and find an alternative. **bleep**ing assholes.

There is still hope that we get this fixed. Looks like they recognize this as an issue now, just not the standard "Have you tried upgrading" etc. Or the strange answer yesterday that this is intentionally.

Hi Google, now that you have disabled the ability to be able to login (even as a Premium member) to YouTube via the Chromecast device, can I please return it and get a refund?

Same here, premium user, used to be logged until last week maybe. Now I get ads and the "can't login, cast as guest" message described by OP
06-17-2022 06:11 AM
I'm just posting to say this also happens on my gen 1 Chromecast. Not only on Gen 2 or newer as others already reported.
06-17-2022 08:20 AM
Also using 2nd gen Chromecast, tried everything, still can't log in to YouTube.
06-17-2022 09:47 AM
me too. and waiting for good news
06-17-2022 11:31 AM
Just adding my name to the list. I have either the 2nd or 3rd Gen chromecast device. I have tried resetting the app, a hard reboot of the chromcast and restarting the phone all several times. I am still not able to sign in when casting. Having to watch ads when I pay for premium is annoying.
06-17-2022 09:01 PM
So is having no user based recommendations, and being forced to deal with autoplay being permanently on.
06-17-2022 05:11 PM
I'm having the same "can't sign in" problem with the Chromecast ultra that comes with the Stadia bundle.
System firmware version: 281627
Cast firmware: 1.56.281627
Language: en-CA

I'm having this issue as well since Sunday, will be cancelling in the next few days if this is not resolved as it's close to all of my usage
