I'm getting ads on my Chromecast (2nd Generation) and I do not know why.
This problem started a couple of days ago when I started getting ads on YouTube-videos on my (Chromecast 2nd gen) even though I have Youtube Premium Lite (It is a cheaper version of Premium but the difference is that it only removes ads, it is so far only available in Europe). This has never been an issue before.
I figured this would stop I logged in but when I tried to log in I received this error message:
Basically it says in Swedish that I can't log in to this TV but that I can still watch as a guest.
I rarely watch YouTube on anything other than my Chromecast so it would be good to know if I should end my subscription to Premium Lite or if this problem can be solved.
BIG UPDATE: YouTube is now claiming on my post about this on Twitter that this issue has been solved. But from what I see it hasn't because alot of YouTube-users are still commenting on this post and showing photos which clearly shows this is still a problem.

Please use the device before posting, the YouTube app when cast allows you to sign in.

Mate, you don't know what you're talking about. Just an hour ago my son cast a video to the Chromecast Ultra from his phone using our family premium account. A few minutes in it was interrupted by ads.

Sorry but we all used to be able to sign in on YouTube on TV (Chromecast). Wr ain't inventing this for fun.

I'm having the same issue. Only started a few days ago on my Chromecast Ultra. Whenever I would cast YouTube to the device, it would have my YouTube profile signed in along with suggested videos, saved videos, etc for me. Now, it won't show me as signed in therefore any suggestions or saved videos won't show up. If I try to sign in, I get the same error msg that OP posted.
I have also noticed that if I'm watching a video and it ends, another video automatically starts playing although I have autoplay disabled on my app.
06-15-2022 11:31 PM
Yes, I'm also getting the autoplay issue. Settings don't matter, but it's probably because it has no profile too save the settings to.
06-15-2022 11:40 PM
I think you're correct that it's not recognising a profile is logged in therefore app settings are ignored.
06-17-2022 08:53 PM
I also have the autoplay issue after the reset and can not restore it anywhere.

I now know it is intentional, but me, and most of your users are not pleased with this, please roll it back to previous firmware. I don’t want to watch ads while paying for Premium and I don’t want Autoplay either on my Chromecast!

having the same exact problem, won’t let me sign in so now i can’t watch my suggested videos!

Hi! I have the same issue, on my 3 Chromecast i have (Gen 3 and Gen 2). I guess there is a problem with the last firmware update. Hope it get resolved soon!

Hi Juancabel,
Thanks for letting us know and we're sorry to hear that you're also experiencing the same issue with your Chromecast.
Our team is aware of this and looking into this issue at hand. Rest assured that I'll loop you back in as soon as I get an update from them. It will also help if you can send a feedback report with a brief description of what's going on with your device.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Thanks, the Chromecast team are aware of that thread and others about this same issue 👍
06-17-2022 08:39 PM
It’s not an issue, according to https://mobile.twitter.com/TeamYouTube/status/1537981161359585281
it is INTENTIONAL. So now I am watching ads while paying for Premium, I will ask for a refund for each month this issue persists, and if not possible, I will terminate my Premium account and also get rid of Chromecast and get Apple TV.
06-21-2022 10:13 AM
If this is the case, I'm going over to good guy apple. Google have 7 days to retract this **bleep**t
06-19-2022 02:57 PM
Can we at least get an official statement as to if/when this will be resolved? Or if it is actually a deliberate flipping-off to the Chromecast community?
If my Chromecast situation is watching ads regardless of paying for premium, I'm going to a Spotify premium, and ditching Chromecast.
06-22-2022 05:13 AM
+1 for moving to Spotify.
08-29-2022 03:39 AM
I thought Spotify Premium was a service, I never knew that spotify had their own casting devices. I googled it and I only see the subscription for premium.
Also it seems like Google would prefer it if you use apple TV to get the preferred Youtube Premium experience on a tv, because you can't navigate chromecast without ads unless you control everything from a separate device, and apparently it seems like google has no intention of enabling the function again.
This means that in order to enjoy their premium version of their product youtube, you must by a competitors tv caster instead of their own device.
Who tf knows why they thought this was a good idea. at least remove the sign in feature on chromecast if it will never be usable again
06-21-2022 12:33 PM
Well? We’re waiting!
05-05-2023 08:32 AM
Waiting for DD75 to say something else reportable. I wouldn’t be surprised if DD75 was a Google employee.
05-05-2023 08:35 AM
Close this thread. Google isn’t going to do anything about it, and this month everybody sticking with it has to pay more.

It's been around two weeks now since this **bleep**storm started...
Do you mean that "the team" is this inadequate to solve this?
Can you at least have the decency to tell us all affected the truth?
There is no work being done to solve this and we should all f**k off and suck it up...
08-18-2022 01:34 PM
Well?! What's going on?
Please solve the issue.
Too much time
08-28-2022 06:26 AM
@JenniferV please give an update the solution for this issue. Or please let us know if it was a deliberate move and you guys are waiting for the case to get stale. This letting us soak in a sea of angry replies with no good news after all this time is kinda nasty and bad for the community.

I personally gave up. And canceled my youtube premium subscribtion completely.
Thanks to firefox with adblock (even on android) I can get a good experience aswell. But I would prefer to pay instead of resorting to this.

Recently (as in today), my Chromecast Ultra logged me out of YouTube. When I tried to press the "sign in" button on the Chromecast, it just says I can't for whatever reason. I've been earlier this year that there was a problem like this, but apparently it's been fixed so I don't know what to do here. I tried countless times to reboot it, and unplug and plug back in for the same result. If anyone knows of what's going on, that would be great to know. Thanks.
06-14-2022 11:41 AM
Same problem here on both my Ultra and my gen 2 chromecast. Links the account but unable to sign in.
06-14-2022 12:42 PM
Same problem on both of my Chromecasts
06-14-2022 01:37 PM
Same problem here on the Chromecast ultra. I've never touched any of these seeing but now it just won't login. It starts logged out when initially I connect to it, nor can I use the remote to login ... It just says it can't and blows me off by saying I can still cast as guest (well I can).
06-14-2022 02:54 PM
Same issue here on Chromecast Ultra. Used to be signed in fine but now it "can't sign in"
06-14-2022 06:30 PM
Me too. All of a sudden my signed in YouTube Premium app when cast via Chromecast is signed out and when I try to sign in, it comes up as 'can't sign in but can continue streaming as guest'
06-14-2022 08:39 PM
Same situation here. Cannot sign in using the Youtube remote on phone or tablet. Most infuriating .
06-14-2022 08:47 PM
According to the Google Home Android App.
System firmware version: 281627
Cast firmware: 1.56.281627
Language: en-GB
06-14-2022 08:56 PM
Doing a factory reset and re-setting up via the Google Home Android App still results in the same "Can't sign in" message. Google please fix this.
06-15-2022 04:54 AM
Same here. Tried to reboot the chromecast, signed out then back in to my YouTube account, and followed all the troubleshooting tips but nothing has worked
06-15-2022 04:39 PM
Tried again Doing a factory reset and re-setting up via the Google Home Android App, this time
disconnecting the Ethernet into Chromecast Ultra & setting up via WiFi - Still "Can't sign in".
Tried "Reset app" - Still "Can't sign in".
Disconnecting the power to the Chromecast, Powering down & resetting the router. ( Fiber broadband & DNS is working perfectly on all other devices ) , then powering up the Chromecast, Starting Youtube from phone , Linking tablet ( see photos below ) using TV code, still "Can't sign in".
06-15-2022 01:39 AM
I am paying for YouTube premium but can’t sign in to my chromecasts, I hope the Googlers in charge prioritise this appropriately and fix this quickly
06-17-2022 08:23 PM
I have the same issue and working on it for the past two days, I tried EVERYTHING, but nothing helps. I am a paying Youtube Premium subscriber and now I get ads on the tv all the time which is very frustrating, as the ads even interrupt the video.
06-15-2022 08:09 AM
I have the same issue too. When click Sign in on Chromecast youtube, it just shows "Can't sign in. You can still watch Youtube...".
I have tried factory reset the Chromecast, unplug the Chromecast power and leave it for all night, reset app in settings, repair Chromecast with Google Home App, but nothing works.
06-15-2022 11:13 AM
This happened to me late last week and factory resetting my Chromecast seemed to fix it then it started again last night (Tuesday night) and nothing seems to work.
