Problem with setup

Hi,

I have an Chromecast Gen1. If i try to configure it by connecting to the Chromecast WLAN the Google Home App tells me, that it needs to be activated. This is not possible with Gen1. How can i setup the device?

Try these steps:

  1. Download the Device Utility app from the Google Play Store.
  2. Open the Device Utility app, and then turn Wi-Fi OFF in your phone's settings as instructed.
  3. Once the app finds your device, tap on its name if you have multiple devices that need activation.
  4. Go back to your phone's Wi-Fi settings and turn Wi-Fi back ON.
  5. Re-open the Device Utility app and tell it to connect to your device.

It should now connect successfully and display the setup code on your TV screen.

This solution doesn't work. The Device Utility App  doesn't find the Chromecast. For Chromecast Gen.1 the app wants me to enable WiFi and search the Chromecast with the Google Home App. The Google Home App find's the Chromecast and says, that it needs to be activated via the Device Utility App.

I solved the problem. It didn't work with my Pixel 6, but with my iPad Air 3. I could connect the iPad to the Chromecast with the Google Home App and set it up.

Glad to hear that. From what I'm reading on other topics, it does seem to be an issue specific to Pixel devices.

Hi. Now it works, I don't need further help with this issue. Thank you all for your help. I hope it's going to work with Pixel 6 in the future.

Hey there HK78,

No problem at all, Google is aware of this current pixel problem and are working on a resolution. In the meantime, I'll go ahead and lock up this thread. If you have any more questions in the future, please feel free to create a new thread.

Thank you for your help, David!

Best regards,

Jeran
