Unable to activate Chromecast

Shaunoh

Hi, I have bought a Chromecast and I am unable to set it up.

I am attempting to 'activate' it through the Utility app, but Everytime I start the activation after it finds the device, I get the error message "Unable to communicate with your Chromecast".

It has nothing to do with the wifi, as this is before I have even connected the Chromecast to a wifi network at all.

Does anyone have any suggestions or fixes?

Thank you.

I am having the same problem.  I plugged in the Chromecast and went to the Google home app and it told me I needed to get the device utility app so I did that.  It then told me it found a Chromecast and asked me if I wanted to set it up so I click next it said connecting to Chromecast and then it gave me that error that it could not communicate that I needed to make sure it was on and I was close to it I'm practically on top of it. Any tips?

I finally managed to sort it. My solution was to use a different phone 😂.

How ridiculous is it that I was unable to set up a GOOGLE Chromecast with a GOOGLE Pixel, but I was able to with an iPhone 😡😂.

Sorry I don't have a fix to it, but if you have another phone handy, give it a shot.

If you're redirected to the Device Utility app, once you're asked to turn off WiFi, follow it. Once the ChromeCast has been found, but before you select 'Setup', manually turn your WiFi back on, and it should rectify the issue and allow you to connect

Such a minor detail but exactly what was needed to make it work!  Thanks so much HasselHodge!
