Youtube disconnects when changing user on phone BUG

salieri
Community Member

Youtube stops playing on my chromecast ultra when I change users on my phone.

How to repeat this bug:

1) Open youtube on your android phone and connect to chromecast.

2) Select and begin playing video on chromecast

3) On your phone, change user profiles. Chromecast will stop casting and disconnect.

This does not happen with any other app. For example, I can cast and play netflix and swap over to my work user to check email.

Hey there salieri,

That is an interesting interaction, you may be on to something. I would double-check if your YouTube app and Google Home app are both up-to-date. Then, if the problem persists, go ahead and clear out the cached data on both apps. Give that a try, and let us know if you can still re-create the issue.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

I updated both and the problem is still repeatable.

I forced stopped both and cleared both of the apps cached and stored data and the problem is still repeatable.

In fact, now the chromecast actually pops up a little window in the upper right that says "salieri disconnected" when I switch users.

Hi folks,

@Jeran, thanks for the help.

@salieri, I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Seeing that in the last thread you mentioned clearing the cached data on both YouTube and Google Home app didn’t work, have you tried reinstalling those apps. From there you can start clean and add your accounts to it. Also, are you trying to cast from your phone or from a browser on your computer?

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Dan

@Dan_A

I am casting from my phone. Casting from my computer is irrelevant to his bug because it triggers when I switch users on my phone.

I uninstalled both the youtube and home apps and went through setting them up again. I was then able to repeat the bug by following the same steps in my original post.

Note, I do have a Pixel 6 so I wasn't able to fully uninstall youtube, since it comes preloaded. I did uninstall all of the updates from the play store and then reinstall them.

Let me know if I can test anything else for you guys.

Hey there,

Apologies for the delayed response.

Are you still not able to switch accounts when playing YouTube on your Chromecast without it disconnecting itself? For confirmation, this is only happening on your YouTube app on your phone, right? And you have multiple accounts on that specific app?

Best regards,

Dan

It is still happening and only happens to my youtube app. It does not happen with any other streaming service.

I want to clarify that switching users on my phone (android user) is what triggers the disconnect -- not switching between accounts on youtube app. Although, I do have multiple channels set up on my youtube.. I never switch between them on my phone.

Again my steps to repeat:

1) Open youtube app on my pixel 6

2) Connect to my chromecast ultra on my TV

3) Select video on phone, chromecast begins playing video

4A) On my phone, pull down the notification bar and tap on my profile picture to bring up "select user" and switch to another user.

Or

4B) Go to phone's setting>system>Multiple users and switch users.

5) Chromecast pops up a "disconnected" window and stops playing. Chromecast goes back to my idle wallpapers. My phone is no longer connected to the Chromecast.

Let me know if there is any other info that I can help with

Hey there salieri,

This is an interesting interaction for sure. If you don't mind, would you be able to re-create the issue, then submit feedback via the Google Home app with logs enabled? That way, if any error logs are being generated, they'll get sent to the engineering team to look at.

I appreciate your help on this, and if you have any other questions, please let us know.

Best regards,

Jeran

The bug is still easily repeated for me. I've gone ahead and also submitted as feedback through the app.

I see I have an Android update today so I'll give it a try after work. I suspect it won't change much. Go ahead and lock.

Hiya salieri,

Thank you for submitting feedback on that! If the device logs had an error in them, the engineering department should be able to locate it.  I'll go ahead and lock this thread. If you have any more questions in the future, feel free to create a new thread.

Have a good one!

Best regards,
Jeran
