casting from chromebook to chromecast results in black screen

Guys I have scoured the internet, please help!

I've been trying to cast anything at all from my chromebook to my new chromecast. I've tried casting through the browser, I've tried casting through the chromebook settings in the icon tray. It connects both ways, but it only displays a black screen. It has flashed with my desktop a few times, only to get stuck on one page while I navigated somewhere else on the computer, and once it showed a glitchy green mess. Please help me fix this, I bought the chromecast mainly to cast from my laptop!

Hello ObeyDontStray,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear about that. Let's check this further.

A few questions: is this only happening when casting from the Chrome browser on your Chromebook? Have you tried casting from your phone to the TV? If yes, how was it? What's the LED status on your Chromecast?

Try these steps:

  1. Reboot your Chromecast and plug it in on a different HDMI port on your TV.
  2. Make sure the Chrome browser is updated and you're casting from a supported Chromecast-enabled website.
  3. Ensure that your Chromebook's operating system is compatible with the Chromecast.
  4. Check proximity of TV to casting device (phone, tablet, or computer), and Wi-Fi router. Ideally, they should be less than 15 to 20 feet (4 to 6 meters) apart from each other, with one or no walls in between.
  5. Disconnect and reconnect your Chromebook from the Wi-Fi network.
  6. Try to cast from a different device.
  7. Factory reset your Chromecast.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hey there,

I want to make sure you're all good — how did the steps go?

Regards,

Jennifer

Hello there, thanks for getting back to me. I tried all of the steps above. I've switched HDMI ports, reboot my router and computer and Chromecast. Factory reset the Chromecast. Tried casting from the chromecast's casting ability and also from the browser. My browser and Chromecast and computer are all updated. I'm at my wit's end with this.

I have filled out and submitted the form. I am seriously considering returning my Chromecast, this feature is 90% of the reason I bought this device.
