Suddenly Our Chromecast gen 2 does not work anymore - not able to cast anything. Tried te reset Chromecast, uninstajj/reinstall Google home, delet and creating new room. Some minutes ago, I read in a paper that it is an issue with Google, and an expired (10 yr) certificate for gen 2. Anybody knows more? And are Google going to solve this problem?

Sounds like a similar problem to me. Seems there was an update yesterday and since then Chromecast stopped working. At first there was an error that said "cannot verify device". Now, when I try and setup the device again, it cannot be found.
I also noticed a few updates for Google apps on my android device. Google, Google TV and Google Maps all had updates. The Google app doesn't want to complete that update. I'm not sure if it's related but thought I'd mention it here.

Of course I factory reset mine ...zs it is the usual way advised by google in cas of issue...

That is helpful. Wish Google had said something BEFORE I factory reset my device. I guess for now, we wait.
Hey Google, even if you decide to stop supporting older gen products, please DO NOT stop them from functioning at all. Some customers are happy to live with older products. Not everything needs to be continuously updated. As the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Same. I did the reset like everytime there's been an issue.
Was not expecting google to send me an email to tell me "we f**ked up do not reset your device."

Same issue here. Standard operating procedure with Chromecast when not working is: reset the thing. So I think most of the people with issues have already reset the device.
I stumbled on information about this problem by chance. How will we be notified if a solution is available?
Lucky for me I had a spare one that is now installed and working...

I installed a spare as well, which I think I have not factory reset. I'll check it later and see if it works.
Hopefully Google will explain how to get factory reset units operational again.

I have 2 gen 2 units- neither are able to stream. I have done the factory reset on one but not the other.... Is there a way to get the non- reset Chromecast to work?

I actually did do a factory reset before of my spare unit, but it wasn't used for quite a while, so maybe it's a combination of a previous software update and the actual issue.
The spare is still running fine at this point.

Yup, both our Chromecasts received a fix this morning and both working without any input required from me - even though I had factory reset one of them. However I do have to setup my personalization again.

Did a factory reset on two devices, and as soon as they are connected to power supply, the update can begin. Worked for both devices

So, got our Chromecast gen 2 finally working now. Even the fact that i've made a factory reset, it was just to go through an amount of steps of configuration. Thanks for your support
