Fix Chromecast authentication issues - Fix casting from Android (GUI method)

CookieHappyCat
Community Member

Hello, I also restored it to factory settings and following the following steps I was able to reconfigure it, I managed to broadcast from the mobile to the TV again, but the image from the mobile is only partially displayed, at least I was able to reconfigure it and now I just have to wait for the update.

If you have restored the factory settings, follow the steps below. If you have not restored it, skip this step and go directly to the process with the free code app.

First of all, you need to change the date on your mobile phone to a day before March 9, 2025. From here you can reconfigure the Chromecast.

Then follow the following steps to be able to broadcast again

Fix casting from Android (GUI method)

  • Download and install an activity manager app, like the free and open-source Activity Manager app.
  • Launch the app and select Intent Launcher from the dropdown menu in the upper right corner.
  • Tap the edit icon next to the Action field and type/paste this: com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsCollapsingDebugAction
    • On Android 11 and below, type/paste this instead: com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsDebugAction
  • Leave the other fields blank, and tap the checkmark button in the lower right corner.
  • In the Cast Debug settings panel that pops up, scroll down to Connection and enable Bypass Device Auth.

This workaround forces open the Cast Debug settings page and lets you enable the Bypass Device Auth option (i.e., it allows you to turn off device authentication), partially fixing the issue. You should now be able to cast from apps, and the Google Home app should also partially work.

Thank you I'll try when I get home

Edit: It worked for my Chromecast 2nd gen

It works, I need to test if the transmission works correctly from an app like Netflix, with Google Home it doesn't quite transmit well, the sound does transmit.

Great!

Like the post please, the users deserve a solution

Went through this process yesterday. Yes it has worked! My Google home still says chromecast is missing! Click on it and it's not missing.... I'm guessing it Google fixes the issues... The next thing is delete start again obviously without a factory reset and re- install? As this is temporary fix or just leave it as it is?

I hope it's temporary, it's a band-aid so I can use it while Mr. Google doesn't fix his big mess. Once it's fixed, I recommend reactivating the last option in the process.

Ok thanks, good advice! So just unclick the bypass auth button, makes sense! Thanks for the heads up... I've tried Netflix, works, other sites, all work my end! Not tried Spotify as not subscribed! Dunno if it's my imagination, seems to actually more stable connections 😂👌

to see if Google will hire me

Hi, can you help me with the steps? I mention that I went back to factory settings

If you've factory reset it, first set the date on your phone before March 9, 2025, so you can connect it to Wi-Fi from Google Home. Then, follow the steps in the images. If you haven't factory reset it, simply follow the steps in the images and download the free code app.

You maybe better asking Cookiehappycat through that process than me! Look above it's all in detail?

Thank you for your explanations. On my cell phone, it says that the file might me dangerous, and asks if we want to download it anyway. I'm a little worried about downloading "F-DROID". Is it really secure for my device? Thank you.

The correct app is Activity Manager.

I update the correct link in the post, the direct link to apk. don't worry, it's not dangerous

All right! Thank you for having answered my question, I'll try it again. By the way, I tried to change the time on my cell phone and it didn't work. So, now I'm about to try the app you suggest me. Thanks again, I appreciate your help! 🙂

Thank you very much Adrian. I'll take a look at your link. Very appreciated! It's so boring without Chromecast! 😞 I was used to it for a couple of years, especially when I'm studying, I put videos ASMR on my TV or pomodoro sessions. Now, I can't anymore. I hope it will work this time, because everything I tried didn't work at all. Thanks again!

I performed a factory reset on my Chromecast. However, while reconnecting, I encountered the error message: "Your device couldn't authenticate." I followed the suggested steps, including installing the Activity Manager, but the issue persists. How can I resolve this?

Confirm that, The bypass device enable is enabled? Is the key of the solution

This fix stopped working this morning. 🙄

Same for me, it was working fine, and since today, it's stuck again. I tried the procedure again, without success...
What should I do?

PS : I started the whole process again (including resetting the Chromecast, changing the time on my phone, and reinstalling and reconfiguring the Home app). After I reset my phone to the correct time, it works again, but for how long? It's a little long and tedious if you have to do it every time...

I fo the fix three days ago, and don't have to do the proces another time, it's puntual fix before google solve the mistake

No, the real app is in the first post

It should be, I hope this isn't forever, but we're going to wait for an official statement.

  • Did not work for me. I changed the date. Then got the activity app and did all that was explained. After that got into Google home an tried connecting. It is still unable to communicate with my Chromecast. The only thing that changed is the the last part of the Chromecast name the numbers. I work with an android 8 since I don't have a newer version. My Chromecast (probably 2nd Gen) is in factory reset.

If you have reset it to factory settings, the first thing to do is change the date and reconfigure it with Google Home, then do the process with the app.
