Nest Switching off everything when asleep

swagswagger
Community Member

Hey there, three days ago my Google Home App has decided to switch to "Away" everytime I'm asleep due to "no activity". Therefore my Phone doesn't charge at night and I have to carry my charging stuff to work. I want to keep using the Automation. How can I fix that?

Phone: Galsxy S10e Android 12

All other Nest devices on the latest software.

Also it doesn't seem to sense when I arrive at home about 50% of the time.

Hi there,

I apologize for my late response, and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I understand how upsetting this may be, and I'm happy to assist you with this. Do you have Sleep Sensing enabled?

Best regards,
Brad

Hey, thanks for the reply!

Yes I have and as far as I understand, that's how it should work?

Thank you for your confirmation! I would suggest that you check out that article a bit more for any troubleshooting you may find helpful. How often are you seeing this happen?

Hi Brad,

This happens quite irregularly - sometimes twice a week, sometimes once every two to three weeks. I honestly think that this could either be an issues with my phone or the google home app on my phone (already checked permissions and power settings) because arriving at home doesn't get detected around 20-25% of the time.

All the best,

Dennis

Hi folks,

@Brad, thanks for the assistance.

@swagswagger, that certainly hasn't been easy for you ― to verify, your Home and Away routines automatically switches to “Away” everytime you’re asleep, which in this case your phone is also turned off, right? It seems like this really involves either the home and away routines and/or your phone’s location settings. Could you try checking your phone’s settings and go to location if there are options to keep it as it is. Because the home and away routines rely heavily on your phone’s settings. Also, it would really help if you could charge your phone before sleeping so that we can monitor if it changes to “Away”. I would really appreciate it.

For more information and troubleshooting, kindly open this link: Change the settings for Home and Away routines

Tell me how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hey there,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for not responding. I'm in the middle of moving and am therefore a bit forgetful about some things.

No, my phone is always turned on and usually charging at night. Power settings for the Google Home app are set to "Unrestricted" and Location is set to always.

All the best,

Dennis

Hi swagswagger,

Hope you’re doing well with the moving and all.

About your Home and Away routines, is the behavior the same? Have you checked out this guide:  Change the settings for Home and Away routines

I also need to confirm if the away routine will change if your location settings are turned off. Monitor if it changes or not.

Best,

Dan

Hey Dan,

Thanks for answering. I ticked my Nest Hub in the presence sensing menu and hope this will fix my problem. Sleep sensing already was turned on so I'm not sure if it'll work. But I'll try just using everything normally for the next couple of weeks and I'll reach if the situation doesn't improve.

Kind regards,

Dennis
