Turn off "Hey Google" on your phone. Google Assistant wants to use the closest device, and most of the time thats your phone.

well thats the obvious answer and one I have clearly thought of, but I have no desire to turn it off on my phone as i use it all the time

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help, @kiltguy2112.

@loulou83, thanks for posting. A few things: which account was used to set up your mother’s Nest speaker? Also, which speaker model is it? If it’s set up using your account your phone should not respond when near any Nest speaker/display.  What is the Google app version installed on your phone? It should be not below 6.5. Check the steps below on how to check it.

  1. On your phone, open the Google app Search Icon.
  2. At the bottom right of the Home screen, tap More More and then Settings and then About.
  3. Look for the version number at the top.
  4. If your version is below 6.5, go to the Google app page, then tap Update.

Check this link for more information.

Best,

Juni

Hi @loulou83

Chiming in — apologies for the late response. In order for your phone not to respond when you say the wake word, you need to set up your mothers devices on your account. To learn more about this you can check out this link.  Let me know if you have more questions.
