Moderator edit: Subject updated for clarity and findability.

If we check the nest cams while in the car using Android auto it starts a phone call. Very difficult to manage while driving.

@Burtonia

I'm not sure if it's safe or legal to be checking your cameras when driving, but this thread started a year ago says a Google Home app update fixed the problem earlier this year:

Maybe the issue has been reintroduced.

I'm the passenger but thanks.

Hey everyone,

@Burtonia, thanks for reaching out to the Community. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with this. Let’s check it out.

A few questions: what is the make and model of your mobile device? Does this happen on the Google Home app or the Nest app?

Please try the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Check for Android OS updates and install them if there’s any.
  2. Uninstall the Google Home or Nest app.
  3. Restart the mobile device.
  4. Install the Google Home or Nest app from the Play Store.

Let me know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Best,

Lance

Hello folks,

@Burtonia, I gotcha. Thanks for getting back to me. I’d like to dig deeper into this. Please provide the following information:

  • Model of the affected Nest device.
  • Android OS version of the mobile device.
  • Google Home app version.

Also, please try the additional steps below:

  1. Open your phone's Settings > General > Date and Time. Toggle off and on Automatic date and time, then check the box for Automatic time zone.
  2. Make sure that the time zone, date, and time are correct.
  3. Go back to Settings > Apps > Google Home > Permissions. Set the Location to Allow all the time.
  4. Check for any updates for the Google Home app in the Apple App Store.
  5. Check for any Android OS updates.
  6. Force quit the Google Home app. Go to the phone’s Settings > Apps > Google Home > Tap Force Stop.
  7. Clear the cache and storage. Go to the phone’s Settings > Apps > Google Home > Storage & Cache. Tap Clear Cache and Clear Storage.
  8. Uninstall the Google Home app, restart your phone, and then reinstall the Google Home app.
  9. Reset app preferences. Go to the phone’s Settings > Apps > See all apps > tap the 3 dot menu > Reset app preferences > Tap Reset apps.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Lance

  • Model of the affected Nest device.

Nest Doorbell Battery (2022)

  • Android OS version of the mobile device.

13

  • Google Home app version.

3.10.16

  1. Open your phone's Settings > General > Date and Time. Toggle off and on Automatic date and time, then check the box for Automatic time zone.

Done and done.

  1. Make sure that the time zone, date, and time are correct.

They are correct.

  1. Go back to Settings > Apps > Google Home > Permissions. Set the Location to Allow all the time.

Done, was already set as described.

  1. Check for any updates for the Google Home app in the Apple App Store.

Last update Nov 23, 2023 – up to date.

  1. Check for any Android OS updates.

Checked, software it up to date.

  1. Force quit the Google Home app. Go to the phone’s Settings > Apps > Google Home > Tap Force Stop.

Done.

  1. Clear the cache and storage. Go to the phone’s Settings > Apps > Google Home > Storage & Cache. Tap Clear Cache and Clear Storage.

The options here are clear cache and clear data (not clear storage) but cache cleared. I did not clear the data. Please clarify.

  1. Uninstall the Google Home app, restart your phone, and then reinstall the Google Home app.

Done.

  1. Reset app preferences. Go to the phone’s Settings > Apps > See all apps > tap the 3 dot menu > Reset app preferences > Tap Reset apps.

So…. This reset will reset ALL of my preferences for disabled apps, notification restrictions, background data and permission restrictions – that’s seems pretty extreme and I really don’t want to undo all of that when we don’t see a solution on the table here.  Please advice how this might help before I do this. Seems like I’m setting up a lot of future fixing with my other apps that are working well.

I did every other task here, and we experienced the same result.  Viewing the cameras on Google Home prompts a phone call to my to start up, every time.

With thanks, please advise.
