Migration from Nest account to Google Broken

Google has really screwed up the migration from old Nest accounts to Google. They never considered that people setup Nest accounts with their Gmail email as a user name and didn't test well what would happen if you tried to migrate to the an existing Google account with the same email. I can't imagine I'm the only one.

Then I had support have me do something to setup a new Nest Cam under the Google account structure with no way to migrate my old Nest devices and account to Google. They knew I was having migration issues and made it worse.

I now have delete all my devices from nest and reinstall, or create a new Gmail account.  What a mess this is. I also have a paid Nest Aware account, that they can't move over. I think I'm done with Google home products.  I wish they never purchased Nest or Dropcam.

The Google Nest Help topic below probably isn't of much use now that you've migrated, but they do have instructions for when a "Google Account is already linked with another Nest Account":

I don't know what might be going on with "I also have a paid Nest Aware account, that they can't move over." When we migrated in 2021, our Nest Aware subscription carried over.

You need to create a brand new Google email account if you used a Google email for old Nest Accounts. My point is that is a horrible work around, why should I have to create a brand new email account. I don't want to many accounts to manage.

So, were you already using the "Sign in with Google" option when signing into the Google Nest app with your gmail account, and therefore these suggested instructions from Google Nest cannot work?

Use the Google Account that's linked to another Nest Account.

1. Sign into the Nest app with your Nest Account [in your case this would be your gmail account].
2. Disconnect all your devices.
3. Sign out of the Nest app.
4. Select Sign in with Google > sign in with the linked Google Account.
5. Reconnect your devices.
