Nest Aware for all cameras

sarahnaurato

I recently decided to activate nest aware ( I thought for my whole house of cameras) but only the newest google nest camera is showing me histories within the google home app. None of my previous cameras are giving me the history option.... even though previously when I used the nest app and had done a nest aware trial i was able to see the histories there so i believe those cameras have the capabilities......

Unfortunately, Google Nest chose a 2-app solution. History for our older Google Nest cameras and doorbells can be viewed ONLY in the Google Nest app, even thought the cameras are present in the Google Home app.

Google Nest's VP and GM provided the following explanation for this 2-app approach in this Sept. 29 blog, and promised Nest camera functionality was coming in the Google Home app. We're still waiting.  In the meantime, we have to keep on using 2 apps.

Hey folks,

Thank you for your feedback on this issue, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest Cams in the Nest App or available on https://bit.ly/3HtBgJC web app. I can imagine having to use two different apps at the moment is quite daunting, and could lead to frustration.

However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support. I am more than happy to assist you further with this inquiry if you wish. Please let me know.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Just to clarify when you say “having to use two different apps at the moment” does that mean that at some point everything can be on the one google home app when viewing the histories for the older nest cams?

I do not believe that we have a plan to move the older cams over to Google Home by default, but that could change maybe. I am not aware of anything at the moment.

Best regards,

Brad.

@Brad

You said "I do not believe that we have a plan to move the older cams over to Google Home by default."

If that is true, then did your Google Nest GM/VP Rishi Chandra lie to us back on Sept. 29, 2021 when he posted the following, which he highlighted in bold?

"...we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app."

I said that I as in me am not aware of this. I have only heard something about it quite a long time ago and haven't heard an update since, which is why I stated what I stated.

I do not always have to be the face of Google. Please do not make that mistake. I don't feel that you are being fair with your verbiage, and calling me out personally. Please have more respect for me and other users. This sort of behavior is not needed in these forums. Please take your feedback to Google via the app.

Best regards,

Brad.

Brad:

I do not think I was being the least bit disrespectful. I certainly meant no disrespect whatsoever. Google Nest's GM/VP made a public commitment in this forum in Sept. 2021 to bringing the Nest devices we have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app. As indicated by numerous posts over the last 8 months in this forum, I and many, many other Google Nest customers have been waiting patiently (and perhaps impatiently) for this to happen. Your reply that there is no plan to move the older Nest cameras and their functionality to the Home app astonished me and made me wonder whether Mr. Chandra's commitment made 8 months ago was true at the time, or whether, 8 months ago, it is now being rescinded.

I guess I am surprised that, given the public commitment made in September 2021 and given the large number of Google Nest customers that are now juggling 2 apps as we manage our old and new Google Nest cameras, there have been no updates on the commitment either publicly or within Google Nest itself.

(I have, by the way, shared my concerns via "feedback" in the app.)

Have a good day.
