Unable to add Nest Thermostat to Google Home app

Like many previous users, I to am unable to add the Nest Thermostat as a device in my Google Home app.

Having added many IOT devices to my Google Home app, I find it fairly straight forward, however, this has baffled me and Google UK, hence my case is being escalated.

Set up a device - Works with Google - search for Nest - takes me to home.nest.com - try to enter email and password and an error message appears

Your email or password may be incorrect. You can try again.

If you've migrated your account or want to create a new one, sign in with google

I am able to use the same email address and password to log in to home.nest.com. Ditto for Google Home. 

When I log into Nest I log in using Google account, so it takes me to the Google page. Any thoughts?

I do not understand the purpose of the "Nest" option under "Works with Google", but it cannot be used to add your thermostat to the Google Home app.

The Nest Thermostat gets installed in the Google Home app by opening the app and selecting the "Plus" sign in the upper left corner and selecting "Set up device":

The Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Learning Thermostat get installed in the Google Nest app, after which they should AUTOMATICALLY appear in the Google Home app. However, many customers have reported this is not happening. Many customers have been able to fix this by adding a temporary second Google Nest "home/structure" in the Google Nest app, then going to that empty temporary "home" in the Google Home app and deleting it; this seems to force the 2 apps to sync.
