Battery draining rapidly on Nest Protect Smoke + Co Alarm

I received my Nest Protect 2nd Gen Smoke + Co Alarm three months ago and have already gone through three sets of batteries, including two set of the recommended lithium batteries.  Mine is a refurbished unit and I thought this might be the problem.  However, it seems to be a common problem with this device.  Any suggestions?

The batteries should last much longer than that. Something to check is if you have the Pathlight turned on, and the brightness setting. I would recommend during this off on the battery unit but if you want it on, try lowering the brightness.
