Can I place a Nest Protect outside (under an eave, well-protected from any outdoor elements)?

I have a cabin in the forest and would like to get advanced warning of a forest fire remotely.  I'm thinking about putting a battery-based Nest Protect outside under a long eave (well-protected from any sunlight or rain or wind) in hopes that it will inform me of smoke outside my home if the forest begins to burn.

I already have many detectors inside that work great, but I don't want to wait until the smoke is strong enough inside my cabin to be notified.

Hey Aaron,

I highly recommend the new Nest Cam Battery Power version to help keep an eye on those wildfires.  The Made by Google team claims that it's weather resistant and can even have it directly in the rain.  You should be plenty safe it its under a long eave.

Best of luck and stay safe!
