Can I use non Energizer brand batteries

[These required issue categories make zero sense for questions about batteries.]

What is the difference between Energizer Lithium AA 1.5V batteries and Bevigor Lithium AA 1.5V (3000mAh) batteries? Can't I use the less expensive Bevigors?

Hi @ronfrank

Nest support requires the Energizer version. Replace Nest Protect's batteries - Google Nest Help I would imagine that is the standard they used during testing and not all batteries meet that standard.

I have 2 battery Protects and use them. This is one area I wouldn't even try the cheaper batteries in. We've seen past posts here and support will chime in and say to use the required Energizers.

Sorry about the filter/tag choices.

Yes, I understand that. My question is very specific: What is the difference? I'm not asking if I should or should not, or what is best to do. I am asking what is the difference. Perhaps you are answering another question I have, which is why. And perhaps the answer is that they only tested with the Energizer version and have not tested with this version — even if the specs are identical. I'm just skeptical whenever a company recommends a specific brand of something instead of simply the specs.

I think that is the issue. What IS the difference?? The other brand batteries may be the same but may not be. They may be labeled as one standard but not meet it. Nobody knows.

My guess is that Nest goes with a known brand for quality, reputation and testing.

With Nest Protects being a life safety device, they have to follow very strict guidelines. You can only use what was approved for use when the device received its original approval from various state, federal and international agencies.

Bevigor Lithium batteries are an unknown brand that doesn't even publish the specs on its batteries.

It claims to have 3000mAh, but all other AA lithium batteries are only close to 2000mAh.

You won't find a definitive answer to your question because nobody is going to waste a thousand of dollars to compare them to other know batteries.

I'm giving them a shot (since I had ordered them already). I’ll reply later in this thread if it's still open down the road.

I don't need any help, but would love for this thread to remain open. I am using the Bevigor batteries (Bevigor AA Lithium (3000mAh) and have replaced the Energizers with them on two Nest Protects. One on Oct 1 and the other on Oct 15. So far they are working perfectly, and the Nest app reports that their charge remains full (I understand some other batteries fail in a week).
