Can't register Nest Protect as it gives a P007 (3.9) error when attempting to connect to wifi.

Hi,

As the title suggests I have a new Nest Protect that I am trying to set up in the Nest app (iOS) I can see the device ok but when I try and connect to my wifi I get the error code above. After being onto the support chat for several hours yesterday we couldn't get a solution and he sent a replacement unit out. Unfortunately, I am getting the same error message on that one. There must be something going on with my router that won't let the connection process happen.

I have tried:

Resetting everything to factory settings

Logging in with a different google account

Turning off the 5ghz channel of the router (BT Broadband Smart Hub) to ensure it was 2.4ghz only

Making sure it has IPv6 enabled

Obviously making sure the password was correct

Checking for updates etc.

Im really at a loss for what to try next. Can anyone suggest anything?

Thanks

Hi Breenbear13,

Thanks for reaching out to us, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Restart the modem and router.
  2. Move all devices being used for pairing closer to the router then pair your Nest Protect on the app again.

Let us know if that works.

Zoe

Same issue here. Since approx 7 days. Restarting routers did not solve the issue. 1 nest operational, one offline.

second attempt. See screenshot

Hi folks,

@Breenbear13, I want to check if you managed to see the response above. Please let us know if you still have questions or concerns, as we'll be willing to assist you further.

@Bloemendal, please follow the steps below:

  1. Quit and restart the Nest or Google Home app.
  2. Make sure Bluetooth is on. Turn Bluetooth off, then back on to refresh the connection.
  3. Disconnect any Bluetooth devices that are connected to the phone to rule out any interference.
  4. Put the mobile device on airplane mode, then turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
  5. Restart the phone or tablet.
  6. Restart the joining and assisting devices.
  7. Move the joining device closer to the router, or the router closer to the assisting device.
  8. Try a different mobile device.
  9. Create a hotspot and try to pair again. Make sure that the device connects to the hotspot this time and not the home Wi-Fi.
  10. Create another structure in the Nest or Google Home app and try to add the device to the newly created structure.
  11. Try to add the device to another account.
  12.  Reset the joining device to default.

I'll look forward to your responses.

Thanks,

Zoe

Thanks all for the suggestions. I have managed to get it working. It was a problem with the router/modem. For some reason it was working with computers/phones etc but as soon as I tried to register Nest Protect or Ring Camera it encountered a problem.

my issue is now resolved if you would like to close the thread.

thanks

Limited success! 😞 But the result is not connected to wifi...

  • every step as mentioned is done.
  • added to a new house using hotspot wifi: worked!
  • reset to default, and removed from the newly created house.
  • back to normal add device on the existing house: worked like a charm!  Wifi connection ok!
  • ran, via the app, a "controle" (check, in Dutch).
    • both devices made their sounds as per expected within a few seconds. All seems ok.
    • but then... the test did not finish... even not after 5 minutes of rotating wheels in the app.
    • restarted the app and... the device with the issues is OFFLINE again... 😞
    • The error P007(3.9) is back when trying to re-enable/reset the wifi....

Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

-- problem solved! --

Sorry for the late reply... was unplanned offline for 4 weeks 😞

But/and: the problem was not the Nest device but the latest Unif Dreammachine firmware!
A similar device (non-Nest/Google) started showing similar issues... when I factory resetted the UDM, the problem was solved for both devices. Nest is now working like a charm!

Thank you for your support in this forum!
