Have Nest Protect but no service

Andrew_N
Community Member

We got new smoke detectors but still have a Nest that beeps even with new batteries. I don't see a Nest app in the play store and we don't even remember what service provider connects to Nest. How do I get rid of it? I would prefer to keep it on the wall actually so how would I completely deactivate it? I don't know what generation it is. It also doesn't have any lights but it has instructions about having lights.

Hello Andrew_N,

Thanks for posting here in Community forum. This guide will help you quickly identify if you have a 1st or 2nd generation Google Nest Protect and if it’s battery-powered or wired. Also, did you use the recommended batteries for Nest Protects, which are the Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries, upon replacing them?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

Thanks for the help, it's battery powered. It recently warned me of smoke so I decided to keep it because the voice is preferable to the usual beeps of smoke detectors. I guess it doesn't require a subscription or service because I don't know how it's connected to anything.

Hello Andrew_N,

You’re welcome! Yep — you don’t need a subscription for your Protect to work. To make sure, do you have other questions or concerns?

Thanks,

JT
