Nest Protect, Cursed unit?

i have 11x Nest Protect (6 wired and 7 Battery)

one of the battery units has ALWAYS been temperamental with

1) Low Battery Alarms (despite when batteries are new/changed) more than 5-6 times

2) Internet connectivity issues (despite resetting and relocating) more than 5-6 times

3) and now it states the light ring is faulty and i must replace the unit......

but as i followed recommended resets, updates and battery changes etc etc each time the unit would then periodically work for 1-3 months the warranty has now expired.......... i called the help line to see if they would like to inspect or investigate the item but the option is ZERO (call center was very friendly though they were just iterating the Higher Management reply...)

my point would be that Google are not interested in checking a unit out to see if it was a 'lemon' or letting you know it was perhaps from a 'bad batch' so if a unit fails more than twice on any 'suspicious/spurious' reason send it back under its warranty period. don't put the risk on you and your pocket.

Hi adfbi,

Sounds frustrating! It really seems like you got a faulty unit, and the fact that it kept working just long enough to outlast the warranty is the worst part. Google should at least investigate cases like this instead of just repeating scripted responses. Definitely a good lesson for others—if a device keeps acting up early on, don’t wait, push for a replacement while it’s still covered.

Regards

I hoped they would take the lemon in and swap for a reconditioned or tested unit and figure out why this one had so many gremlins, Google was hiding behind a Philippine call centre…….
