Nest Protect : Presence Detection

Scrumdidly
Community Member

Hi,

I have two Nest Protects using the  same firmware versions, one is battery powered and one is mains.

The battery powered one shows on google home presence detection but the mains powered device doesn't.

Has anyone seen this, or could offer a resolution?

Thanks

Hi Scrumdidly,

If you're experiencing a discrepancy in the presence detection of your Nest Protect devices in the Google Home app, where the battery-powered device appears but the mains-powered device doesn't. Please try the following:

  1. Ensure that both Nest Protect devices have a stable Wi-Fi connection. Poor or intermittent Wi-Fi connectivity can affect the presence detection feature. Check the Wi-Fi signal strength in the location where the mains-powered device is installed and consider moving it closer to the router or installing a Wi-Fi range extender if needed.
  2. Try restarting both the battery-powered and mains-powered Nest Protect devices. This can help refresh their connection to the Wi-Fi network and potentially resolve any temporary software glitches that may be affecting the presence detection feature.
  3. Confirm that both Nest Protect devices are running the latest firmware version. Firmware updates can introduce bug fixes and improvements that may address issues with presence detection. Check the Nest app or the Nest website for any available firmware updates for your devices.
  4. Open the Google Home app and navigate to the settings for each Nest Protect device. Ensure that the presence detection feature is enabled for both devices. You can also try toggling the feature off and on again to refresh the settings.
  5. If the mains-powered Nest Protect device is still not appearing in the Google Home app's presence detection, try removing it from the app and re-adding it. Follow the instructions provided by the Google Home app to remove and set up the device again. This can help establish a fresh connection and potentially resolve any configuration issues.

Please note that the steps provided here are general suggestions, and the specific options and menus may vary depending on the version of the Google Home app and the firmware version of your Nest Protect devices.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
