Nest Protect false smoke alarms repeatedly

Garclancy
Community Member

Hi

I have 6 nest protects in the house and the latest one installed about 2 years ago. I have had zero issues with any of then until now.

The newest one is wired and has been giving false alarms for smoke for no reason.

I have dusted it and performed a self test and all ok for a day then happened again. So I took it down again and opened up the back to check for dust as per instructions on line and nothing but cleaned again anyway. This was fine again for about 12 hours.

Nothing has changed in the environment it's in. There is no source of steam near by.

I have had to disconnect it to stop it waking the house so need a fix please

Hi Garclancy,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand you're experiencing false smoke alarms with your Nest Protect, and I apologize for the inconvenience. Let's work together to resolve this.

To help us troubleshoot effectively, please provide the following information:

  • When the alarm sounded, what lights were visible on the Nest Protect?

  • Has the Nest Protect exhibited any previous unusual behavior, such as false alarms, legitimate alarms, chirps, or other unexpected sounds?

  • Did the false alarms coincide with any recent construction, cleaning, cooking, or other activities that could have introduced dust, particles, or steam into the environment?

  • In what room and location (ceiling or wall) is the Nest Protect installed?

  • When was the last audio test performed?

  • Beyond dusting, have you performed any other maintenance on the Nest Protect?

I recommend running a safety checkup on your Nest Protect through the Nest app. Please let me know the results of the safety checkup.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Best regards,

Kevin
