Nest Protect gone offline and cannot reconnect blue light does not appear.

Hi

I have 2 Nest Protects, one has gone offline. But was report battery and Everything is working? I tried to reconnect, but this failed. I removed from the app as suggested, but now the app or the other Nest Protect will not find it. Furthermore, when pressing the test button nothing happens, no blue light, no spoken voice, but new batteries are installed?

Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi I had the same problem with my four nest protects, with a bit of research I've solved the issue by,

Note: You need physical access to your Protect to restore it to its factory default settings. You cannot erase Nest Protect’s settings with the app.

  1. Press and hold your Protect’s button. It will chime and glow blue. Continue holding the button down.
  2. Release the button when your Protect starts to say its version number.
  3. Your Protect will start a verbal countdown and tell you it’s erasing all your settings. wait for the countdown to complete and for protect to state its finished.
    • To cancel the factory reset, press Protect’s button again during the countdown. 
  4. After a few seconds your Protect will reset to its factory default settings. You can then go through the add device  setup with the app and add it to an account again . worked no problem with all four of mine

Thanks Kevin for responding. I had wanted to try similar. Sadly even with new batteries, when pressing the test button there is no response from the Nest. No blue light ring, no chirp etc. seems completely dead! Looking at the manufacturing date it’s just under 9 years old. I know they recommend a life span of 10 years and I am wondering, suspiciously, whether there is some sort of product switch off when it gets to 10 years, or over a year before in this case. Nest people when you do this?😉 which is fine if the product has had its full life but not if it’s ending early. Also perhaps it should be left to the user to decide? Though that does not helps sales

does it?

so Nest is there a switch off when the product is near end of life? It will be interesting to see if other people have experienced similar?

Hi Paul,

thanks for the response and saying what has happened to your nest protect, I doubt if it would have some type of end of life system built in as I’m sure that would be illegal in most countries, it’s most likely a premature electrical failure, as an electrical engineer myself I know that two identical units can fail at different times it all depends on the components used or even an electrical surge during a storm could cause premature failure. The end of life label is to ensure the unit is replaced due to deposits clogging up the sensors.

Hi Kevin,

The conspiracy theorists might disagree. Why is it technology always fails, doesn’t last as long as previous versions or fails 1 month after the guarantee expires! 😉 Seriously though I appreciate the help trying to trouble shoot.

looks like I will have to purchase a new one unless someone is able to give advice on bringing this one back from the dead.
